Hello.

I will be going to Thailand in January for 6 months but will have to return to the UK for a wedding in April, before then going back to Thailand. If I get a double-entry visa, is my second entry still valid if coming from the UK? Or would it be best to get a single-entry, then apply for another single-entry when back in the UK in April? Am I less likely to get another visa that close to getting the first? Also, I've just come back from travelling Thailand - I did it on a double-entry. How do the Thai consulates view doing another 6 months? Are they generally okay with it or if they see I want to do another 6 months they will think it's dodgy?

Many thanks in advance!

A tourist visa would provide you with 60 days, extendeble by 30 days, so you would need a double tourist visa to start with. (2 time 60 days). Than you go back to the UK and can apply for another double entry tourist visa, which shouldn't be a problem.

If you only go for a short time to the UK before returning to Thailand you can apply for a re-entry permit. But for that option ther would need to be no more than 119 days between your first day in Thailand and the last day of your second trip to Thailand.

If you have a friend in Thailand who can provide you with his address and a copy of their ID-card you could apply for a multiple non-O visa at the consulate in Hull. More expensive, but you can get almost 15 months out of the visa and you will be allowed to stay for 90 days in a row, than you have to leave the country and can come back in the same day for another 90 days, as long as the visa is valid. It is valid 1 year from date of issue and by leaving and re-entering a day before the visa expires you can get another 90 days.

It really depends on the actual dates what is best for you.

I think I would get away with a single (with extension) if I went around 20th Jan, and came back to the UK mid-April. Really I just want to know if I could then go back to Thailand with the second of a double-entry, or do the rules change if the second entry is from the origin of visa?

Thanks for the info so far :-)

You will have to make the second entry within a certian time frame (the validity of the visa) that is normaly within 6 months form the date the visa is issued. So if you get it in January and make your second entry when you return in April or May you will be all right and can get the second entry extended too.

That is why you have two entries, to travel to Thailand two times.

Brilliant thanks. Was just a bit unsure on the second entry being from the UK, not somewhere like Vietnam, Cambodia, etc, etc. But seems a double-entry will do fine.
