Hi All,

Need some advice, Have been with my Thai G/f since 2006 and we have a duaghter of 15 months who has both thai and British passports, I have been living with my thaiG/f in Thailand in our house for the last 2 and a half years just going back to the UK to renew my immigrant o visa the last one being April, while i was back in the UK i applied for a job that i have just been told i have got, so i would like to apply for a settelment visa for my G/f who is soon to be my wife, I have my own house in the UK. So my Questions are 1, as i have been living in Thailand for the last 2 and a half years no income just living off my savings and a small amout of rent from my house,so would a letter from my employer giving start dates and income be OK. or do i have to go back to the UK and work for 6 months and then apply ( dont want to do that as that would mean spending to long away from my duaghter it was bad enough for 1 month in April) and 2, My banking is done online so is it ok to print off my bank statments, has anybody done this recently , and my g/f has never been abroad before and i have read on here that it is sometimes better if you have a few stamps in your passport is this the same for a settelment visa or just visitor,

Any info would be great thanks.

Print off statements of any money/savings you have. They are ok with printouts these days as long as your account number and the bank details are cleary on the printout. Supply the job offer letter and make sure you refer to both in your covering letter. This should be fine on the support front. You will also need the details of your house in the UK and proof of your relationship with your girlfriend.

Q1. There is no need for you to return to the UK first. The ECOs are used to seeing applications where the British partner is an ex-pat returning the the UK with no job or, as in your case, a new job to start. Yes, a letter from your new employer confirming your start date and salary will be fine; but I'd also include evidence of your savings.

If your house is rented out, where will you be living?

Staying with friends or relatives is fine. If this is the case then they should write a letter inviting you to stay in which they briefly describe the property to show that there is at least one room for the exclusive use of you and your partner. As your daughter is under 2 sharing a room with you would be ok, but it would be better if there were another room for her. The person offering accommodation should also show that they can do so; if they own the property then some proof of this such as a mortgage statement or copy of the deeds; if they rent then a letter from their landlord saying they have no objections to you living there.

If you will be moving into your own house, then you should provide the evidence of ownership and suitability.

Q2. These days internet printouts are fine.

Q3. There is no need for any applicant for any type of UK visa to have traveled to a third country first. Yes, a history of previous travel may help to swing the balance in a visit application if the ECO has a few doubts about the applicant; but for a settlement application there is absolutely no need whatsoever.

The ECO will asking him/herself two questions:

Is the relationship genuine, as stated? Remember, that to qualify for settlement as your unmarried partner you will need to show that you have been living together in a relationship akin to marriage for at least the last two years.

Can the couple (and any children) be adequately maintained and accommodated without recourse to public funds?

Show that, on the balance of probabilities, the answers to both of these is "Yes" and your partner will get her visa.

Many thanks for your reply

Yes will be returning to my own house, it is currently rented through an agency who will be giving them notice to leave soon, should i print off the email from the agency informing me that they have given the tenants notice to leave and submit it with the visa application, showing that my property will be ready for me to move back into on a certain date.

Many thanks
