Friends,

Please help clarify for me the meaning of a term of art I have not yet seen. From this week's Matichon Weekly:

หลังการสลายการชุมนุมเมื่อวันที่ 19 พฤษภาคม 2553และประเทศไทยเปลี่ยนมาปกครองด้วยระบอบประชาธิปไตยภายใต้ "พ.ร.ก.ฉุกเฉิน""สมบัติ" เสนอรูปแบบการต่อสู้เชิงสัญลักษณ์แทนการเผชิญหน้า

I am thinking that this means,

"After the [bangkok] protests were quelled on May 19th,and Thailand became governed as a democracy under 'emergency decree', Mr.Sombat suggested [that the opposition engage in] form symbolic resistance inplace of [physical] confrontation."

Does this reading of the phrase "รูปแบบการต่อสู้เชิงสัญลักษณ์" make sense in this context? Thanks.

My only quibble (and it is very much only that) is that the noun "form" needs an article, either "the" or "a". Other than that, looks fine to me.

Absolutely. The sentence should have read ". . . Mr.Sombat suggested [that the opposition engage in] a form of symbolic resistance . . . "

(Often when copying and pasting from Word into this site, spaces are lost. I confess to sloppiness in lacking a diligent review for missing spaces.]

Whatever political side one takes, one can be impressed by one of his ideas: wearing red shirts on Sunday! How spiffy is that!

Thanks.
