I am new to this forum, and apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.

As an Irish citizen, residing & working in UK, I wish to bring my Thai wife home with me to reside in UK.

How do I go about it?

I am told it is easy under EU law, but no one is clear on the process.

Help, please.

Hi there.

By no means is it easy at all. Its one of the most difficult countries to get visas for, especially for Thais.

You need to be able to support your wife financially and have somewhere for you both to live,be able to prove an ongoing relationship in my opinion for at least a year.

All backed up with pay slips, bank statements,Phone records, emails, tenancy or mortgage agreements.

These are just a few of the requirements,im sure other b/ms will advise you more fully.

Good luck though mate.

It is not as hard as the above poster makes out, even for the partners of UK citizens who have to apply under the UK immigration rules. (See some of the posts from our American and Australian fellow members to see how long and complicated the visa process can be!)

As you are the citizen of an EU state (RoI) living in another EU state (UK) it is even easier.

Your wife applies for an EEA family permit to join you in the UK. It is free and the evidence required is minimal. Basically that you are married to each other and you are, or will be, exercising your EU treaty rights to live in the UK.

See EEA Family Permits.

For where and how to apply, see Official UK visa application website in Thailand.

Strictly speaking she does not need this permit, as long as she arrives at UK immigration with you, evidence that you are married and evidence that you are exercising your treaty rights to live in the UK, but it would make her entry into the UK a lot simpler were she to obtain one.

I'm moving this topic to the Visas and migration to other countries forum.

You require an EU Family permit very straight forward.

If you require professional help or advice feel free to contact me via my website we have offices in the UK and Thailand.
