"wife busy copying on a 1.5tb external USB drive, price 5,450 Baht"

sorry! typo. price was 4,450 Baht.

Naam,

can you comment on the Egreat player's performance, please ?

Does play all the relevant files without problems ?

Does it connect via HDMI cable ?

You said the biggest Harddisk it takes is 500 GB (or is that 1.5 TB) ?

Thanks for your help !

-i have not yet encountered any file that Egreat can't handle.

-HDMI = yes.

-the internal slot takes a 2.5" max 500gb drive, externally no limitation that i know of. i have a 1.5tb connected.

-i am happy with the performance.

And does it actually play in Hi Def? This is sounding very interesting to me if the WD TV is so expensive here.

For people who think that any new big brand TV will play anything, be advised: friends bought Samsung that do indeed apparently do just that but my new full HD Sony does not. I like Sonys, I got a great deal on it and it's quite nice but I'm very annoyed with myself that I wasn't sensible enough to find out what it would play first.

So now I'm looking for the right Media Player (or whatever they are called).

Whoa! I just realized this thread is a couple years old! I feel like freakin' Rip Van Winkle.

D'oh! Of course it's not . Looked at the wrong dates (I thought it seemed awfully current tech-wise even though I know almost nothing of such things).

My brand new Samsung HD TV does not play everything. And the interface is nowhere near as good as these media players. That's why I'm getting another media player...

Man, your post made me feel so much better; I'm happy with the TV, got an excellent deal on it wih a Home Theater but I just got it and in the back of my mind I've sort of felt like it was a mistake ...now I not only feel that I need a media player but that I'll better off than I would have been with another TV.

These days I'm not exactly rolling in disposable income so how I spend 35,000 baht matters to me.

I am now considering the Scorpion 801 HD TV Satellite receiver. This is similar to the Dreambox (dbox) which is very popular in Thailand. Apparently, you can plug a hard drive into this and it play virtually all movie formats (better than Dreambox in this respect). So with the price of media players in Thailand such as the WD TV, I might as well get this satellite box for a comparable price which does the job of the media player plus gives me satellite for only 200 baht per month.

Does anyone have experience with the Scorpion 801 HD Receiver?

The Scorpion looks interesting but not sure about it as general satellite receiver

as the only card support seems to be Conax.

To be honest I do not know what encryption system is needed for HD satellite signals

so you will need to check if that is your aim.

Apart from that is does look like a box worthy of consideration

as a combined satellite receiver and media player.

A guy selling them in Thailand says I can use it for UBC Platinum and DTV (whatever that is!) and its 200b per month.

Sorry I have to stop you there.

You are straying into the area of illegal card sharing.
