Phuket Police arrest 15 for alcohol ban violations in Patong

PHUKET: Fifteen people were arrested for selling alcohol at bars and restaurants in Patong on the Khao Pansa Buddhist holiday on Tuesday.

Kathu Police Deputy Superintendent Praya Chansomwong ordered police to be on the lookout for violators of the alcohol ban that was in effect on Monday and Tuesday, according to a report in the local Thai-language press.

Violators will be fined 20,000 baht each and their cases forwarded to the public prosecutors office, according to the report.

ah , they should have learnt to pay there Tea Money

Maybe 1 of them is the well known on Rawai beach :(

what a stupid reaction - if people wish to drink - let them drink? What happened to religious tolerance? That should include those who are not buddhist. It is up to the individual if they drink - not any police force - but then the tea money can be paid.

You could drink all you wanted to, just not in a bar. The police were enforcing the law against willful violators of the law. Thailand is a Buddhist country. All the buddhists I know didn't drink alcohol or have sex for two days. My father in law isn't drinking for the entire three months of buddhist lent. My wife rarely if ever drinks alcohol. So, what's the big deal if bars close for two whole days? There will be another day (The Queen's Birthday) next month the bars will close and no alcohol sold; August 12th, so you better stock up before.
