Getting A Non-Immigrant B In Vientiane

Featured Replies

One of my customers asked be about the situation at the Vientiane consulate, but I could not find much recent info on here. Is it hard getting a Non-immigrant B in Vientiane these days?

If they have a WP or WP3 they can get a single entry non-B.

KL will give one year non-B if they have WP.

Thanks. I would guess that a WP is work permit. What is a "WP3"?

A wp3 is a form from labour, it indicates that you will get a work permit once you are in the possession of the right kind of visa or extension of stay.

Thank you. Does anyone know if it is still illegal to bring a work permit out of the country? Will a copy of a current one with other company documents be sufficient?

Illegal, never heard about it.

Before I got married I went to Penang each year for non-B visas.

They always wanted the original work permit.

Thanks.

It was actually illegal - you are supposed to store it at the work permit office - but in Perth they are reasonable about such things. dealing with a real Thai Embassy is a whole different thing.

I was always under the impression that your work permit had to be stored at your place of employment and not at the "work permit office". All my employers kept my WP in their safe.

Yes, sorry. I meant that it is supposed to be stored at the work permit office if you leave the country. I have had to do it before, but, this being Thailand, it is not impossible that the rule has changed, but no one has told me.

Last page of my WP:

WARNING.

1. A work permit holder must keep the permit with him or at the place of work during working hours in order that it may be readily shown to the competent official or the registrar.

Any violation thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand baht.

Yes, correct, when you are working, but if you leave the country, you are supposed to store at the work permit office when you are gone - unless they have changed the rule. :jap:

Is there anything worthwhile about using the men in front of the Thai Consulate who offer to help with visas for a price?

I think that they can actually be of service as they seem to have some "connections" with the staff inside. They can even arrange for a visa to be ready in the same day. Its worth a shot.
