Married To A Thai In Uk

Hi all

I have travelled to Thailand previously 3 times on the standard tourist visa.

I will shortly be marrying my Thai Fiancee in the UK ( she has marriage visa ) and wondered if my visa options will change for trips to Thailand, I.E. can I stay longer than the 30 day tourist visa, say for 6 months at a time ?

I work full time in UK however I am just looking at my options for the future.

I have been married to a Thai lady in The Uk for 10 years, all i do is ring the Local Thai consulate up, been Cardiff in my case, they send us a form and i get a 3 months visa, 24.00 GBP, they are very quick, send my passport and takes about 3 to 4 days, great service, you can renew this visa in Thailand, here is the link.

Hi Clive,

I was looking into the same thing and came across a post by Scouser. You can do what Thaicoon has posted or there is an alternative, if you want a longer visa. To save you looking, this is what Scouser says on the subject "If you are married to a Thai national you can be allowed to stay for a year at a time without having to do visa runs. You should get a non-immigrant "o" visa from the Thai embassy in the UK. This will get you 90 days upon arrival. About 1 month before the 90 days finishes you can make an application at the nearest immigration office for the 1year stamp. In order to get this you willl need to show, amongst other things, that you are indeed married and that you have 400,00 baht in a Thai bank which originated overseas."

For a person not living in Thailand the correct visa would be a multi entry non immigrant O based on your marriage certificate and copy of wife id card or passport. You would then receive a 90 day stay on any entry into Thailand during the one year validity of the visa. You would not have any address reporting to do or be tied to renewing your visa on any fixed date.

Mrbojangles post would fit those who plan to remain in Thailand and have the outside income required. One very important point is that wife must visit immigration with husband and sign paperwork.

Lopburi, with the non imig O, if I want to stay longer than 90 days do I have to show the funds of 400,000 baht in an account ? The alternative being that I exit Thailand before 90 days and do the " visa run " ?

Just exit and return for another 90 day stamp.

If you want the one year extension of stay you need proof of funds in bank/bank account and/or employment here. In your case I would no recommend as it is a fixed date for renewal each year - any stay over 90 days requires an address report - you would have to have an re entry permit for travel outside of Thailand to keep it alive.
