webfact
DSI Chief Confirms Getting Threats The director general of the Department of Special Investigation admits that he and the department have been subject to death threats and other attacks. Meanwhile, he is planning to propose easing of the freeze of financial accounts suspected to have been used to finance the red-shirt movement. Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, Director General Tharit Pengdit confirmed the news that he has received death threats as well as threats of sabotage against his department via letters and phone calls. Several unidentified individuals have been observed photographing Tharit's private residence as well as the DSI headquarters. Investigations into the suspicious activities were useless when it was discovered that the vehicles used were equipped with fake license plates. Phone threats to Tharit were made to his personal mobile phone by unnamed men using True Move numbers. The DSI chief affirmed that a thorough probe will be launched to find those behind the threats. The first step of the investigation will be to determine if the threats are linked to the recent bombing incidents in Bangkok. Tharit admitted to some apprehension over the situation while acknowledging that the threats have likely been motivated by his department's work against the red-shirt group. He assured that he would persevere and continue with his duties. Personal security for Tharit has been stepped up and military personnel have been dispatched to secure the DSI building. Meanwhile, Tharit will today ask the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation to unfreeze the financial accounts of 83 individuals suspected of funding the red-shirt group. He affirmed, however, that investigations against the suspected protest financiers will continue and justice will be served. -- Tan Network 2010-08-

topsecret
Meanwhile, he is planning to propose easing of the freeze of financial accounts suspected to have been used to finance the red-shirt movement So it seems like the death threats have done the trick! how pathetic Edited August 3, 2010 by webfact code deleted
RedNIvar
Seriously after all that has happened over the year, is anyone surprised by the death treats. What is surprising is why it had not some sooner?
animatic
So the threatening individuals are organized and well founded. Not some crack-pots. Why I am not surprised. Not surprising at all. While the big boss tries to make nice and look contrite, the minions continue their aggressions, just in a different form and using lower profile methods, while the street idiot, zealots try and make fear an everyday part of Bangkok life... Oh, yes time to let down your guard all is well.

Only wanke_rs threaten to kill people/officials; they commit a serious crime in doing so, and run the risk of getting caught via the medium of the threat. Those with serious intent just get on with it

No way to trace, except via cell tower triangulation at the time, and voice changing devices are easily found, or even apps added to crush and dump phones. The stakes are high enough that having 2,000 shadow phones to hand out use once is nothing, unless they are sequential serials and traceable to someone important. Notice someone got his PERSONAL phone? No this is one on one psych-ops on DSI chief. Edited August 3, 2010 by animatic
march
DSI Chief Confirms Getting ThreatsThe director general of the Department of Special Investigation admits that he and the department have been subject to death threats and other attacks. It would seem that any one that the Reds might have an axe to grind against is threatened (perhaps with an axe?). ...meanwhile, in typical Red fashion... Somtow gets police protection after hate mails Hate mails threatening to pour his blood at the Rajprasong intersection and kill all his family members have prompted police to provide protection to renowned conductor/novelist Somtow Sucharitkul. The messages were sent in response to his recent articles responding to Thaksin Shinawatra's lawyer Robert Amsterdam after the latter issued a "White Paper" on Thailand's political crisis. SomTumTiger
Typical Red modus operandi. All this has happened before, and it will happen again, until someone cuts the head off the snake. Yes, Thaksin is the head - for those of you to thick to grasp that 5555 Edited August 4, 2010 by SomTumTiger

Siripon
Tarit also admitted Wassamon, his wife did get paid for service to a Sia Meng who owed Revenue Dpt. back tax, it was only lawer fee. Tarit said Sia Meng used his wife's cousin, a lawyer, and her, to clear his tax debt and set everything up on a legal basis. She was previously investigated for this case as the area she worked in was a different jurisdiction to Sia Meng's and she was found not guilty of unethical practice. Anyone asking for a bribe is going to ask for cash, not a cheque. The accusation looks like more nonsense from the greatest possessor of hot air in Thailand, a man responsible for so much of global warming,Jatupon. dighambara
However, their actions identify them as cowards, because they won't face their adversary openly.. Yes, I know, it isn't the Thai way, but to go behind a person's back with a threat or with talk is still cowardly...
chantorn
Tarit is not worth killing. It adds no value. His wife is different, as she will either be charged for: 1. Taking 150K bribe or 2. Did not pay tax on the 150k received.
asiawatcher
I would think the man at the helm of the most controversial post in Thailand is lucky to still be walking around but the threats et al - all Mafia tactics, fear, threat, occasional suckers caught taking photos and so on - then we have the Thai's and others claiming he/his wife took bribes! No - really - not in Thailand. The whole country is on the take from the lowest motorbike rider to the man under the top - seems the PM is the only guy not squashed with slime at this point - but with more covert notes about the kwai daeng rearming and the most likely new uprising - is it any wonder the DSI and others still receive death threats? Time will tell but this is fast looking like Italy or HK. Dead bodies soon so the punters here can say - see - told you so!
