Moving To Thailand Bkk

na I was thinking should I stay or should I go, with a little bit of a hale and pace twist, but I don't remember what they used to say

Remember, the people that are happiest here are from the UK and from Europe, with overbearing socialistic governments, and some of the worse weather anywhere.

It's an interesting point- especially on the weather front- but there are a great number of Italians who move here and settle in, and that's from a country of beautiful sun shine and right-wing government of Berlusconi. It's a big stretch to classify the UK politically as that as well, but I can't argue with the weather part of it. It's a big part of the appeal, yes. But overbearing socialist government? Never had that, sorry.

And if you hook up with a Thai woman, you'll be one of thousands who have given up their self-esteem and self-confidence to live in a land with beguiling woman who will take your money, even if it takes years for the fangs to come out. But, they will come out. Remember, no matter how you try, you'll never be self-sufficient or independent because you cannot speak the language. This alone makes the woman have control over you.

This is vaguely nonsense. Sure, if you date the wrong type of women you'll find someone who's after money, but I know plenty of hard-working and independent Thai women who'd be pretty pissed off at anyone making such ill-informed generalisations about a country and it's people. And yes, they're in relationships with foreigners. And a few of them earn more money from their businesses than their partners- a good friend of mine's income is dwarfed from what his wife earns from her company- she even gives him a small allowance on the side which, naturally, is a constant source of amusement and ribbing to all of us. But if she's after his money she's doing it all wrong. Someone should tell her.

I've noticed a lot of these sweeping generalisations are usually made by foreigners over-fifty who have invariably entered into relationships with Thai women much younger than them- twenty or thirty years- and who are, to put it nicely, the kind of women who want financial reparations for being with an older farang. I'm not saying that's the case here- but it reminds me of a conversation I had with an older Australian gentlemen recently who told me that "all Thai women want paid for it", before expanding his point to the classic "women the world over just want your money." So I checked with him- "All women?"- and he nodded, yeah. "All women. Trust me." So I asked him about his mother. And he got pretty mad and said his mother was different. Weird that, out of all the women in the world how he just happened to be the son of the one who was the exception...

But if you feel you're not self-sufficient or independent because you can't speak the language... there's a pretty simple solution to that. Learn the language. Not only is it incredibly useful, but it keeps the brain occupied and provides a huge challenge- one with it's own rewards. Although it's tough- and it's one of those languages that seems to getting harder to understand the deeper you go into it. Thai grammar rules seem to be a particularly brand of mental strain created by sadists.

I understand the post was meant as a warning about how things might go wrong, and a level of alientation one might feel moving here as an America... but in a lot of the points raised, there are answers to these problems, ones which don't involve fleeing the country. I don't believe for one second that everyone who lives in Thailand has issues. But I can believe that someone with deep issues about the place might comfort in leading themselves to believe that.

Once again thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm excited to say my flight is booked for the week after next through January of next year. Then it hit me? What do you think my best option is re my visa situation since I'm coming in on a 30 stamp from the USA? Remarkably no consulate here in SF and do not want to let go of the PP now. Any thoughts. Regardless, thanks for the shove, it was just what I needed. I suppose I have 30 days to come up with a solution.

this you gonna regret.visa runs every 2 weeks will take the fun out of everything. flying everymonth can be an issue for a guy not wanting to spend too much 4 an apt.

send away to an embassy and get a tourist visa. just do via express mail.
