dmax
i am currently in tha kanto 100 k from khon kaen and 100 k from udon thani. i am bored here allready of the slow paced life and the wife has told me to take myself off for a day or two so im going to go on a bender for a couple of days, i usually go to udon where there is a good lot of farang bars and plenty of lady company if i want it i am thinking of heading to sakon nakon or maybe down to ubon or buriram for a night, i have a car and i love driving so distance isnt really a problem i would like to go somewhere similar to udon or khon kaen which has a few bars etc. where would you recommend. also where is good to take my family in isaan for future trips ? thanks in advance

citizen33
I'm assuming that the idea is to have a night out along Udon lines, and that both Udon and Khon Kaen are fairly familiar already. Taking places just a bit further afield, Nong Khai is worth a visit and I found that Chum Phae was better than I expected (though you need to know where to go - do a search for an old post). Surin probably has a much as anywhere in Isaan apart from Udon, Ubon is good if you don't mind a more Thai-oriented scene, and I have also enjoyed visits to Roi Et and Buriram. rixalex
where would you recommend. also where is good to take my family in isaan for future trips ? My advice: Start by crossing off all the towns where you have "taken a woman", and see what you are left with.

SantiSuk
Ubon Ratchatani is a good bet for a family or drinking visit but I would caution that for the single man there are no 'girlie bars' as such - probably only KK, UT and Buriram has (a small number of) those in Issan. There are other options (the 2 expat bars can advise). Ubon is a university town with a big student population. I am told that a reasonably good looking <40 year old can do well, with a few words of Thai to break the ice, amongst the lovely 21year old students at late night discos. I qualify by looks - well I did say 'reasonably' - but not by age so cannot verify that statement personally! DJH77
Why not try Mukdahan and then slip over the bridge to Savannakhet, Laos. There you have ample entertainment of every description and if you like a bit of action there is Savan Vegas Casino. If you want any more info contact me. Richie1971
Go the whole hog and head to BKK - you love the drive - try a totally different scene - a change is as good as a rest

True - in fact I've never heard of Prasat and haven't a clue where it is! And I missed Korat from my inexpertly constructed list. As it happens I discovered at the weekend that Ubon does itself also have a couple, albeit fairly low key (I am advised:lol:) Edited October 6, 2010 by SantiSuk

Not that I'm interested of course, just like to know all about my adopted home town, in case I get visitors from Pattaya who may feel lonely!
