Madame Tussaud's Bangkok Expected to Draw 500,000 Annually

BANGKOK: -- Executives of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum have pointed to Thailand's strong economy and tourism potential as the allures that brought the famous wax works museum to Bangkok, expressing confidence the feature will draw in over 500 thousand tourists yearly.

General Manager of the soon-to-be-open Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Bangkok, Paul Williams, said the attraction will open on December 4 on the sixth floor of Siam Discovery shopping complex.

Williams elaborated on the choice of Bangkok, the third Asian city to host the wax museum after Hong Kong and Shanghai, saying that Thailand is an enticing investment prospect with its strong economy, rich culture and budding tourism industry.

The executive added that foreign investments in Thailand have had a history of high yields, assuring Madame Tussaud's that a new museum in the Kingdom's capital would be well received.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum Bangkok is set to feature wax likenesses of famous personalities from around the world as well as within Thailand.

The attraction is projected to draw in 500 thousand visitors a year.

The Bangkok museum will be Madame Tussuad's, which is over 250 years old, tenth branch.

On what do they base : The attraction is projected to draw in 500 thousand visitors a year.? Oh - they asked TAT. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

A nice round figure 500,000 not 456,00 or 620,000 maybe they will include repeat border runners and Iranian ice peddlers. :whistling:

Hmmm......sounds like a new place with dual pricing......

Only 700 Baht a ticket to see 70 unlifelike wax statues including famous Thai figures such as M.R. Kukrit Pramoj, Khaosai Galaxy, Tata Young, Mitr Chaibancha, Theeradej Wongpuapan, and Anne Thongprasom.

( Doesn't Pattaya have a Somchai Tussaud's 'fake' version? I remember seeing some billboard for it. )

No, it's just because of Thaksin being in there.

Thats around 1,500 people a day.... tall order!

On the contrary, these wax figures may actually be more exciting and pleasant than meeting the real people.

So Ripley's Believe it or Not, Krispy Kreme, and now Madame Tussaud's. Another imported brand attraction. I'd rather go to Siam Niramit with my mango and sticky rice any day.

They will not have dual pricing...and I might believe 500k visitors, not [foreign] tourists.

Have you ever seen the huge queues that form daily outside Madame Tussaud's in London?

Don't know where you read THB 700 for a single ticket, but such a price would be a real show-stopper as far as most Thai are concerned. This would immediately raise doubts on the 500k visitors expected.

Will they display fake reds, fake yellows, fake army, and chocolate policemen etc?

1,370 people a day...

85 an hour for a 16 hour double shift day

171 an hour for an 8 hour day.

2.8 people admitted per minute

Been to Madam T's in London.

Seems more than a trifle optimistic.

Yes, but never 1,500/day.

If they have a Rogue's Corner it would be very interesting to see whose likeness will be displayed.

Note to Redshirts.  Wax is a great fire accelerator and disperser.

The "other paper" lists 700 baht for adults, 500 baht for children as the admission costs which will generate 275,000,000 baht in its first year of operation.
