Does anyone know (other than TIT) why "bank" is spelled แบงก์ and not แบงค์ ? English "k's" should generally be, I would think, ค or some other 'kh' sound. In French it is, I believe, banque, that doesn't get us to ก either. OK พีๆ, we await your wisdom

Obviously the spelling doesn't make any difference as it has been garraned ©, but a little check on google shows us that แบงค์ is a popular nickname. Maybe it's to keep the name popular. I also saw that KTB have internet แบงค์กิ้ง on their website.

The spelling is in accordance with RID rules:

k ค Kansas = แคนซัส ก York = ยอร์ก

This is from the RID's "หลักเกณฑ์การทับศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ"

Good grief I've misspelled my last name for 45 years!!!! One wonders what the rationale was for putting ก at the end of words which, in English have a clear aspirated k sound.
