Keep A Promise

Featured Replies

Anyone care to share what is 'Keep a promise' in thai like? Is it 'Gep San yaa?' or is it got to do with 'Lap Bpaak'.

ทำสัญญา or ให้สัญญา, to make a promise or to or to give your word.

Keep a promise: รักษาสัญญา raksaa sanyaa or รักษาคำสัญญา raksaa kham-sanyaa

In a related vein, to keep one's word: รักษาคำพูด raksaa kham-phuut

รับปาก is the more common, and colloquial way to say it.

What about 'breaking a promise'. How can you say this?

For breaking a promise thai-language dot com have กลับคำ and กลืนน้ำลายตัวเอง, with the latter appearing to be more of an idiom - to swallow your own saliva.

for breaking a promise, I usually hear 'ผิดสัญญา'

รับปาก is the more common, and colloquial way to say it.

รับปาก means to give your word/promise to do something. You can certainly รับปาก without keeping your word.
