any drug store would carry it , but killing the pain do not solve your problem , what you need is to find what what is causing your backache .

i have gallstone problem and i take tramadol . but i try my best not to take it unless the pain is really really bad .

Is killing your pain with Tramadol, solving your problem then?

For heavens sake, don't wait until a stone gets lodged in your common bile duct, the pain will knock you out for sure - get something done if you are able. smile.gif

It should be widely available here. As suggested, you may not be pronouncing the name with the "proper" Thai accent. Writing down the name is a good suggestion. I have the best response when I bring an empty container to the pharmacy so they can read the label and see exactly what I'm talking about. The two sisters at the pharmacy across from the Montri Hotel can help. They deal with many, many westerners so they're used to dealing with people who don't speak English with a Thai accent. It's the first pharmacy west of Thapae Gate. There is another pharmacy a few doors west of theirs that isn't as helpful.

It's right next to the roll-on deodorant. They sell it everywhere including 7-11.

I don't know how some of you people made it as far as the airport!

In all fairness it is not always labeled ibuprofen. Yes it is a great anti inflammatory drug just be sure to take it with food it will eat your stomach lining. Is there anything 7 11 dosen't sell

Perhaps we might want to try to help the questionable questions.

Roll On was a troll no body could be that stupid.

As mentioned, pretty much any pharmacy will have it. The brand I usually got was Brufin and is in foil packs. Actually I stopped taking ibuprofen due to the reported issues with it and use Tylenol-Paracetamol for my occasional problem with tendinitis pain. It doesn't help for inflammation though.

I have a bulging disk. I was in very severe pain for 1 1/2 years. The Dr in Australia put me on anti inflammatory and pain killers. Still some days I could hardly get out of bed. It was suggested for me to try glucosamine. I read a lot about it and almost didn't bother trying it as many articles said it has not been proved to have any effect. (See attached Choice article) Most testing is done on glucosamine sulphate. A pharmacist said I should try glucosamine hydrochloride. It is made from shell fish and has no side effects unless you are allergic to shell fish. Blackmores also makes one from vegetable matter..

The pharmacist said it would take at least 3 to 4 weeks before I felt any improvement. 10 days later the back pain stopped, my arthritic toes stopped hurting and my knee that I was told I should have another reconstruction 7 years ago has never felt better.

I am not saying this will work for everyone, but I have told about 10 friends about this that have had back pain and it has worked for all but one. I think the one it didn't work for didn't take it every day.

If I stop taking them for about 1 week my pain starts coming back.

I have tried 3 different brands. One didn't work. It was in tablet form. I have been taking 1000mg capsule Blackmores brand every day for the last 2 1/2 years and the worst pain I get now,and that is rare, is how I used to feel on a good day.

In Thailand it is very expensive, about 880 baht for 80 capsules of glucosamine sulphate 250 mg. This is about $1.20 per dose. In Australia I buy 1000 mg, 300 capsules for around $45 or about 15c a dose. This is nearly 1 years supply for me. Recommended dose is 1500mg. Guess where I buy mine from? I personally wouldn't trust the Thai made ones.

Hope that helps you or maybe someone reading the post. I would be interested if you could message me if you try it and you also have a miracle cure or if it has no effect and let me know your results. Good luck..

I have not really had success with it but I know many who have. I am told that if you take it with Chondroiton (sorry about the spelling) and MSM it works better.

i had not cut it out or one simple reason which is what i believe , a little pain make us more human and is also a reminder for me that life is short and we must use it wisely .

i hardly take tramadol nowaday . cos i slowly understand what is causing the pain . so i learn to avoid or rather control my diet , not that i am super successful cos at time maybe once every few month i still have one attack .

. :)

guess is a dog life for me

Life will be shorter if one moves and lodges in your common bile duct!

I like the Ibuprofen for bad headaches but have never seen it here in a 7/11.

I read the other day that they are now saying that it can be linked to heart attacks and stroke.

here:

http://www.usatoday....ids-heart_N.htm

Interesting, it is more about the negatives of Vioxx (withdrawn from market) than Ibuprofen Aleve.

"But the study found no increased risk of cardiovascular problems — indeed, a slightly lower risk of death — associated with naproxen, sold over the counter with brand names including Aleve."

So take it in moderation, and you'll be fine.. Better actually..

Actually, paracetamol (or acetaminophen which is what it is called in the USA) is a far more toxic medication than ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen is available in every Thai pharmacy, without exception. But this is the generic name. In pharmacies where the staff are not trained pharmacists (pretty common) they may fail to recognize the name. Just ask for medicine for pain and look at the generic names of the various things they show you, you'll easily find it.

it also helps to show them the name written down, most will recognize it written out but may never have heard it pronounced.

Best in general though to stick to pharmacies that actually have a pharmacist.....

Yep, I know that pharmacy. NancyL's directions are accurate. I have known them a long time. They are very nice and quite knowledgeable. Perhaps too knowledgable. They will take you for a ride with high-profit drugs for them that are not necessary for your condition. More generally, many pharmacies will more than likely steer you toward higher- profit margin drugs. No different here than anywhere!

Do your own simple experiment! I do this now as a game. Ask for some paracetamol. See what a pharmacist reaches for first. Guess what it is ?! Ask for other equivalent generic quantities of the same common drug. Compare the costs! Happy shopping!

By the way, if you don't know it, you should ask your doctor about the potential complications of any drug depending on what your particular circumstances might be! And, if you got here, you most certainly can search for other independent advice from reputable sources. I am, of course, totally disreputable!

Oh! As a postscript for those regulars on this thread who seem to care most about it, that pharmacy offers Viagra at competitive prices! But that --- sorry, chums! --- is not what I need!

Nurofen is Ibuprofen.

I think that should be Nuprofen --

As a side note --- if you use Advil (Ibuprofen) in the US it is 200mg --- in Thailand it is most commonly sold as 400mg's and is available everywhere. It is better as an anti-inflammatory than for fevers or even pain (but in MANY cases relieving the inflammation stops the pain!)

  • 6 months later...

Doing karate and wrestling for many years have taken a toll on my joints now that I am old. I exercise a lot but my joints are killing me. I take salmon oil. When I go to the doc he gives me 5 pills to take. [muscle relaxer, anti inflammatory, stomach pill, and others] I tell him I want only one that will work, or I wont take any, it doesn't matter, they just hand me lots and lots of pill. I just throw them away when I get home

What is the best single pill, similar to, ibuprofen - Advil - Alieve, that I should get here for muscle and joint pain.

thanks in advance for any help
