Heading to Hua Hin in the morning for a couple of days. I've always driven with friends so am unsure about how to go otherwise.

Which is the best route to go? Bus? Mini Van? Where do I take these from and does the bus only leave from the southern bus terminal? What about the one near Ekamai. I've read about the train but have been told it's unreliable.

Thanks.

Can get a minivan from just behind Victory Monument, walk towards Phaya Thai and there is a big shopping complex (Century Movie Plaza), you will see loads of vans around, so just need to ask.

Take a van from Century Mall. The mall is adjacent to BTS Victory Monument station. Vans leave from the car park of the mall every 30 mins or so.

Large highway buses use the southern bus terminal across the river. Pain in the rear to get there, minivans leave from Vic Mon which is served by skytrain. Big buses are less frequent and slower than the minivans which go about every 20 mins. Basically they go when full never mind the clock, another one appears immediately so no worries. Travel time is about 2'40" depending on traffic and weather.

Get off the skytrain and go down from platform level but stay to the RIGHT and exit toward the rear of the station. You will see the mall as you walk down the stairs. Go into the parking area and just ask for Huu Hin and someone will point you to the corect desk.

Ekkamai terminal serves the eastern seaboard, the other side of the gulf.

There are several options to travel from Bangkok to Hua-hin like bus, mini-van or train. But I recommend train as the best option due to cost reasons. Traveling by train is quite reliable as there is a regular train service from Bangkok and each day a number of trains pass through Hua-hin when they are on their way to farther south areas.

And it only costs 44 baht (free for Thai) on the one which leaves Bangkok about 0930

Vans like to drive very fast. A bus is somewhat better but for me nothing beats the train. I like taking the train from Bang Sue station as The MRT stops there too so it is very convenient way of travel.

You can look here how to travel there: MRT Route Map

Thanks all! We took the van from Victory monument. We were the first ones in the van as one had just left and waited about 25 minutes for it to fill up and leave. Took about 2 hours to get to Hua Hin. On the return we were the last two in the van so it left right away. Convenient and fast but felt the driver was not driving reckless either way. Cost was 160 baht each way.
