It Mall On / Near Koh Samui

Recommended Posts

Sorry, ain't no such thing over here.

The only closest thing is Banana IT which they have 2 branches on Samui, one in Tesco Lamai and one just beside Tesco Chaweng.

They do have some motherboards and harddisks etc, but they don't really have that much of other PC parts the way you find like Pantip plaza.

I guess most people do their serious shopping in Bangkok.

There are also a few smaller computer repair shops around the island, but I'm not sure about their stocks though.

when people need a pc technician that speaks english and knows how to work, they call me.

when I or they need to buy parts, shopping in bkk is not necessary anymore, banana IT ( http://bigitshop.com ) is here with same prices as bangkok(located beside tesco chaweng) then you have hardware house( http://www.hwhinter.com/price.php )opposite big C and another bkk/pantip big shop is coming opposite makro it's http://www.jib.co.th

Ah! This must be the shop I just posted as a New Computer Shop.... looks like there will some better competition around!:)

Banana IT service has certainly improved in Bopout Store, since they got rid of the first manager..... I think they moved him to the Lamai store though....

yes banna IT but i use a local shop at the traffic lights at tescos. small shop with techinicans in the back.

Sometimes u pay more in samui but it has it's advaantages. 1 bangkok allot of shops sell second hand computers as new.

2 when they brake. u have to send it all the way to bangkok to repair and find a thai translater to tell them whats wrong.

Make sure u ask them about warrentee and how it works when or if u buy a computer. ask how ong the warrentee and how long it takes to fix if something goes wrong.

there were some really cheap computers in that banna IT they were note books for 10 k. the catch is they do not have any software on them at all not even windows. of coarse i would not know that had my girl friend not translated it. another twist out here

Well you have the choice of which legit System of windows you want to put on..... & they will do that.... from Basic to Ultimate, W7.... and their prices are competitive, so it does give you the choice.... unlike the other national retail stores that sell groceries, who use the copied versions!

As the saying goes "you get what you pay for! "....

I have always found CEC to be the ones to fix my PC problems.

Good on PC's and variable on laptops, but they have always sorted my problems out.

On the corner by the first traffic lights S of Tesco

Yes they're the best I have found.

They can fix software problems as well as hardware/modems etc. and fair prices I think too.

Turn left at those lights and they are on the right hand side.

Yeah but I don't buy complete PC's... Complete PC's are crap no matter what expensive brand you think you buy because the parts inside aren't A quality. If you want a good PC you build it yourself or let them do it with the best A quality parts you selected.

So if you want your warranty on Koh Samui you need a shop that sells good parts, not whole pc's. So that is my question, do any of these shops sell quality parts? As in Mainboards, CPU's, RAM , harddrives etc etc or do they only have complete PC's, printers and LCD screens in store?

See nobody fixes computers... Either you reinstall windows and all is fine again or a part is broken and you can't fix a part, it needs to be replaced, if these shops don't sell parts I have to go to Bangkok anyway.

About a year or so ago, I mentioned them in another computer thread on here. I didn't paint them the same way you guys do. Grossly overpriced when I bought my computer, asked for Bht 900 for a power supply unit, settled on Bht 700 as they sent mine off for repair under warranty. Same unit Banana IT Bht 350.

Another thing, a lot more people on the island now can repair computers much better then they can.The same as a lot of other businesses on the island, they had a free reign, they still can't acknowledge competition is here.

yep suppose r u right. though i really do not want window 7. had problems with them before.

Banana IT have tried to play tricks on me in the past. Problem with these Big centers if that the staff manke money on commision.

For example. They had 2 monitor exactly the same on the show room. I asked to buy one. i followed the lady to the back of the shop. she was just about to get it. then a man came and asked her if it was for a forang. she said yes obviously. So he told her to tell them they were out of stock.

sop she did and tried to sell me another for about 2000 baht more. i was like..Laters.

Home pro are worst. about 50 % of stuff is all on show and they have it in stock and it is now appernetly obsolete which means that u cannot even order it.

pathetic!

Banana IT and Hardware House offers the same waranty policy as in Bangkok. Anything you buy from their stores nationwide can be claimed/replaced at any of their outlets.

Paul36, I'm surprised you aren't already familar with Banana IT (Com7) or Hardware House (A&L).

I also never buy complete PCs and put them together for myself and friends. The two above computer store chains offers good prices with excellent warranties. This is because both import their own hardware instead of ordering from wholesale distributors.

This certainly could be an on going debate, of who is best & who not! But finding stores are willing to "dicker on price" if you push them a bit!

When that other thread Rooo mentioned, that was going about a year ago, I showed it to the now Manager at Banana IT (His name is Boyd the "Mac tech" guy) ) when I had problems with the old manager... (not sure Big C if that is when you had problems in there, when old manager was there?) ..... But they will hear about it, if people are complaining here.... from me!

I also sent an email to head office making a complaint, at the time, & said that if they wanted us "Farangs" as customers, they had basically get their "act together"! .... soon there after he was replaced.... not sure why they sent him to Lamai though! or whether what I did helped.... ?

My suggestion with dealing with Banana IT is to only talk to Boyd the manager or the other "chubby" guy in there, never remember his name.... avoid the girls, they are hopeless !

Stopped at the new Hardware House and just window shopped, today, (opposite Big C Store) smaller store than I thought it would be... But if a national chain as B,,,,IT (72 stores in Thailand I think, their website says) is their prices should be nationwide....

Generally too, if something needs to be ordered in at these stores it is usually here with in two or three days.... I'd rather wait than go to BKK! ....:bah:Easier too if have problems or need to exchange something! (Make sure to keep receipts!)

Agreed better to build than buy off the shelf..... if you know someone who knows what they are really doing to help on the right advice!

The shop almost across the Maenam Post office is not bad either.....

Supot Electric seems pretty good on somethings... too...but noticed they have a new tech guy... so things may have changed! Although if you have problems there, speak to the owner or the manager in the office, their English is good....

If anyone looking for a larger computer case, for larger mother boards etc, as I was back in January, the only store that had them was the store in Nanthon, a little bit past Tesco..... but other than external stuff, they don't do much if anything in the way of say hard drives etc..

Ah computers.... ! A good way to keep us parting with our money! :o

hmm... I disagree. I used to build my own PCs (its not hard, too be honest its easier than lego) but its a false economy has been since the millennium. If you take Dell, HP, Lenovo the combinations of components are tested to work, by tested I mean thoroughly - they dont want returns, the closest you can get is 48hrs burn in on your own hardware. The amount of shit PCs that have loose MB connections, overheating graphic cards, overheating CPUs, incompatible memory, loud fans (the most common). I am not saying it cant be done but by the time you've done your own testing, purchased a decent case (that doesnt look like a toy with neon lights) and a decent fan that doesnt sound like a 747 youll find it costs more than an offshelf job. Yes I accept HP etc.. use lower end Foxconn mobos, but I cant hear my PC, it can run for weeks no problem, and I make more than 20baht per day so Id rather not piss about with PC lego.

Samui all crooks.....trust me! Never met anyone who REALLY knew what the problem was. I studied in Europe and even I cannot fix many things for myself......

That's an interesting observation, so if I don't know what the problem may be than I immediately qualify as a crook?

Banana IT (at least the one in Chaweng) sell a fair range of off-the-shelf PCs, I think mainly Acer and Asus, and a whole range of laptops. They also sell components. I think when they first opening they were build up stock gradually but at least last week they had a good range of stock and BKK style pricing.

Was it brand new?

What brand and model was it?

Specification?

I'm looking to buy a cheap laptop for my father and 9500 is very interesting price.

http://www.bigitshop.com/online-shopping/Notebook-Acer-Aspire-one-D255-2Ckk/C010_Diamond-Black.html

1Gb of RAM sucks. RAM is so cheap these days, I recommend a minimum of 2Gb for Windows XP and 4Gb for both Vista and Windows 7.

Regards,

Matt.

I wouldn't trust any of these dodgy copies the locals install. Rootkit anyone?

you're right, they install modified version of xp from internet i wouldn't trust.

i prefer to create a slip install myself, at least i know what's inside.

...bought a few months ago a nice Dell laptop there incl. orig. Windows 2007 Home, but the assortment of screens is rather disappointing.

That's because there is no Windows 2007 Home. You got one those super messed up copies. I can see your CC details as you type ;) just kiddin..

Get a genuine copy of Windows, with a genuine product key, active it without a crack, dont use a keygen or blacklisted (or soon to be revoked serial) as you'll have endless problems months or at best a year from now. Its just not worth the hassle, for example Windows Home Premium 7 has everything you need for less than 5000 baht and will be good for at least 5 years (less than 100 baht a month).

sorry, I meant the orig. Windows 7 Home edition, which works very fine indeed. The screen issue would be an upgrade of my current very nice 19" one to a very nice 24" for a PC.
