Angelina Jolie granted filming permits in Bosnia after rape scene rumors

SARAJEVO, BOSNIA (BNO NEWS) -- Actress Angelina Jolie had her permit to film in Bosnia reissued on Monday after it was cancelled last week due to an alleged rape scene that angered female activists, local media reported.

Bosnian authorities had revoked filming permits for Jolie's untitled romantic movie, which marks her directorial debut, because of a rumor that claimed that the film was centered on a rape victim who falls in love with her assailant.

Bosnian authorities were pressured by the Women Victims of War association to prohibit the shooting of the film, claiming that the script incorrectly represented female war victims.

"It's very simple," USA Today quoted Jolie as saying during a break in shooting Friday. "There was a nasty rumor that it was about a relationship that started with a rape and torture - and it's not."

Gavrilo Grahovac, Bosnia's Minister of Culture, reissued the permit after reviewing the original script, which was handed to him by the film's producer, Edin Sarkic.

The love story is reportedly based on a Serbian man and a Bosnian Muslim woman who meet in midst of the Bosnian war, which occurred in the 1990s and killed around 100,000 people.

"There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters and that will be revealed once the film is released," Jolie had previously stated. "My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film."
