Govt attempts to solve garbage, water pollution

BANGKOK: -- The government hopes that by the end of this year it could find an appropriate technology to solve the garbage problem nationwide, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said today.

The prime minister noted that his administration was also trying to solve the problem on polluted water in rivers.

In his weeky radio address, Mr. Thaksin said more than 40,000 tons of garbage are released daily--some of which some of which could be recycled.

Proper management is required and this needs a cooperation between the government and provincial authorities.

The government is selecting technology for recycling garbages and treatomg polluted water so that waste materials can be used for producing bio-diesel and fertilizer.

Several private firms have proposed several methods of technology and recycling.

Water pollution is becoming a serious problem, Mr. Thaksin said, with waste water being discharged into Tha Chin and Chao Phya Rivers, causing the quality of water to deteriorate severely.

He said his government was finding ways to contain contaminated fat, released by households into rivers nationwide.

Technology?

How about picking up all the ()@*#$ garbage, for starters?

Sounds like the low-tech, no-brainer solution is what would work best.
