U.S. President Barack Obama to visit Pakistan next year

2010-10-21 07:07:03 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- United States President Barack Obama on Wednesday said that he will visit Pakistan next year.

Obama told his plans to a Pakistani delegation that visited the White House in order to attend the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. The United States leader told them that he will not visit Pakistan this year during his November tour in India but in 2011, although he did not specify a date.

The Pakistani delegation arrived to the U.S. to attend the third round of the Strategic Dialogue that concludes next Friday. The delegation and Obama agreed on the need for regional stability and on the importance of cooperating toward a peaceful and stable outcome in Afghanistan.

President Obama remarked the importance of the Strategic Dialogue in translating the current relationship into a true partnership based on mutual respect and common interests.

The planned trip to India caused some speculation that the U.S. President might also visit Pakistan, in an effort to maintain diplomatic balance between the two rival, nuclear-armed states.
