Government Scanning Internet And Emails?

Featured Replies

I just ran across the website http://iir.ngi.nectec.or.th/ which seems to have all kinds of interesting statistics but one I found particularly disturbing was the Thailand E-mail Virus Detection Operation Center linked from that page at http://164.115.2.140/mcstat/index.php and Mailcleaner at http://mailcleaner.gits.net.th/

What is Mailcleaner? How are these statistics gathered? Should I have privacy concerns?

Use a mailserver outside Thailand, preferrable accessable via https

hi'

statistics don't mean much, they are just numbers indicating a state at a precise moment .... and concerning interernet I don't see any reason to get paranoid, they might be able to look at emails, but can they read them all? I don't think so, may a robot engine searching for specific words like a spam jammer or similar, and this little program is another spam tool, it doesn't mean that it works :o

AFAIK they scan mail servers for particular file extentions, so unless your private life involves the distribution of those file types, you're unlikely to have any concerns. These are also pieces of software that dont require human input to perform their usual functions.

But, in general, unencrypted email can be read by anyone - but who is going to want to read your email, especially when it is one message among millions, no, billions, each day.
