Monsoons bring widespread rain nationwide until Wednesday

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department said Tuesday that widespread rain is expected throughout the country until tomorrow.

Seasonal monsoons are strong and fishermen have been advised to stay ashore, while heavy rainfalls may cause flooding in low-lying land and at-risk areas in the North.

However, the storms are expected to gradually subside from Wednesday to Friday.

A strong southeasternly monsoon is covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand today.

The southern coastal Andaman region will experience scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain until Friday.

The department issued a warning to fishermen, urging them to stay ashore to avoid unusually strong waves, with some waves as high as 4 metres.

Meanwhile, torrential rain hit some parts of the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, causing flash floods and trapping hundreds of villagers at Ban Huey Son in Pho Sai district.

Local officials have provided long-tailed boats to help flood victims.
