Iran to reopen nuclear talks in November

2010-10-29 21:31:37 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran has expressed willingness to renew talks with the United Nations' (UN) Security Council regarding its nuclear program, UN and Iranian officials said Friday.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) welcomed the resumption of the talks with the Group 5+1, which refers to the UN's permanent Security Council plus Germany.

"In this letter, resumption of talks on the basis of Dr. Jalili's letter to Lady Ashton dated July 6, 2010, from the 10th of November 2010 on, in a place and on a date convenient to both sides has been reiterated," the SNSC said.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton confirmed having received a letter from Saeed Jalili, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, agreeing to set up a meeting after November 10. Lady Ashton had previously proposed Iran to reopen talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna, expressing hope that Tehran would "respond positively" to the offer.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last weekend said the Group 5+1 should establish their position regarding the International Atomic Energy Agency regulations, as well as their goals in nuclear talks.
