Conflicting reports after aircraft debris found on western Indonesian island

2010-11-04 10:34:51 GMT+7 (ICT)

JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) -- Debris from a Qantas passenger plane was found on Indonesia's Batam Island on Thursday, reports said, but few details were immediately available.

Qantas confirmed one of its Airbus 380s was involved in an incident, but provided no other details. Residents on Batam island, near Singapore, reported seeing large pieces of debris - including the door of an aircraft - after hearing a loud explosion.

However, it was not immediately confirmed if the aircraft had gone down there or if it was able to remain in the air. Some reports said the plane was preparing to make an emergency landing in Singapore.
