OCOTILLO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- A light earthquake rattled southern California on early Thursday afternoon, seismologists said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 4.6-magnitude earthquake at 12.39 p.m. PDT (1939 GMT) was centered approximately 9 miles (14 kilometers) north of Ocotillo, a census-designated place in Imperial County. It struck about 1.8 mile (2.9 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the California Integrated Seismological Network.

Residents in the area, including people in San Diego, reported feeling a small earthquake, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.

Earlier this year, on April 4, a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the southern California-Mexico border, killing 4 people and injuring around 100 people.
