Aero Caribbean flight crashes in central Cuba, killing 68 people

HAVANA (BNO NEWS) -- A passenger plane carrying nearly 70 people crashed in central Cuba on late Thursday afternoon, local media reported, killing all those on board.

Aero Caribbean flight 883 was traveling from Antonio Maceo Airport in Santiago de Cuba, in eastern Cuba, to José Martí International Airport in Havana when it went down near the town of Guasimal in Sancti Spiritus Province at approximately 5.42 p.m. local time.

State-run media reported that the ATR 72 twin-turboprop aircraft was carrying 61 passengers and seven crew members when it went down near Guasimal. No survivors were found, but it was not immediately clear if there were any casualties on the ground.
