Is A Health Certificate For Chinese Nationals Required?

Featured Replies

My Chinese GF plans to join me in Thailand next month. Does anyone know if she is required by either China or Thailand to get an international health certificate to either leave China or enter Thailand. If the answer is "yes" what is the minimum required shots. I left the US over 4 years ago and have been living in Thailand as well as traveling around Asia and have never had to get a health certificate with any required shots.

We went to a government run health service for international travel in Kunming China and they gave my GF the impression that she needed this certificate to either leave China or enter Thailand. The cost was going to be 2200 baht for a cholera and anti-mosquito shots. I wasn't about to cough up that money if the certificate wasn't required for traveling to South-Asian countries. I am not a great believer in the unconditional use of shots unless one is traveling to a highly contagious area.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Believe an international health certificate is only needed for travelers from yellow feaver infected areas, which does not inlcude China.

Before I left China for the first time, I was told that this kind of certificate was needed, too. However, some of my friends told me that it was not necessary. When I got my passport stamped when I was leaving, the offical didn't mention a word about the cerfificate. After that, I just toltally fogot the certificate thing because nobody asked for it.

China is a large country, so the same policy could be explained differently in different place. Since issuing the certificate will generating profit for some people, they are proactive to urge you to do that. I don't know which border check point you and your GF leaving China. If you travel by air, I think most check points in airport will not ask for that. I left China from different airports none of them asked me for that.
