Hi Guys

I am currently in Thailand, been here on a VOA and then extension to stay with my wife(60 Days). We were seeing if possible for us to live here. We feel okay that our current situation will work, so I am looking to get a visa to help me stay here.

I work from home, and have a sizeable monthly income from that, and have all my bank statements for at least a year showing the money in and out. I am married to a Thai lady and we have 2 kids which were boht born in Europe where we have lived for the last 5 years, but now we want to live here.

I plan to go to KL to do the visa work, but want to know what sorts of things I need to have ready for inspection. Then also what sort of visa I am looking for. Would it be better if I took wifey along with me? We could do with a little holiday :)

Thanks in advance, and if need any more info let me know.

Cheers

A visa requires that you exit country every 90 days or less and a multi entry from KL on basis of marriage will require 100k in bank account plus normal marriage certificate/copy of wife ID and home register to help prove current relationship - her with you would also prove that but is not required.

You can not legally work in Thailand without a work permit so be aware of that. It does not appear you would qualify if not working for a Thai company.

Extension of stay for one year from Immigration for those married to a Thai woman requires 400k in bank account for two months prior to application

Would that money have to be in a thai bank account? I have read about proof of income letters, could I use one of these. Could I get that at the Brit embassy in Malaysia(save the trip to bkk).

Does anyone have any idea of how I could pay some sort of taxes here, as my work would like to see me paying some to somebody.

Cheers

Believe they now want it in Thai account only and without would be a single entry visa.

You can always pay tax and has not been an issue in the past but that would not make work legal if checked and in this age of counter corruption it becomes more likely that undocumented financial information will be starting to attract attention.

Hi

Just an update of my trip to KL. Flew direct with firefly from Koh Samui to Subang Airport. Got a taxi to the city which was 35 ringit. Stayed at Prescott Inn, which was fair enough, at 140 Ringit a night. Went to the Thai Embassy at about 08:30, was already a queue, and by the time they opened up the office and I got in I was number 25 in the queue. Took about 45 minutes to an hour to be called, gave a copy of my marriage certificate(thai version and English notarised version), copy of wifeys Tabian baan, and although you said I needed a Thai Bank, I thought I would try with a printout from my Online Natwest Account. had 2500GBP in there, and showed that days date. If it didnt work i would get a tourist visa and sort it out for next time. Just got asked to come back at 14:30 the next day. So next day i thoght I would go early again, not advisable, I would suggest rocking up at 14:25 and standing near the entry as they dont open till 14:30, not like the morning where they let you in before the office opens. I got in line took about 15 minutes to get to the counter, where I got handed my passport with a Multiple Entry Non-O Visa.

Flew back got stamped in till middle of February, and jobs a good un :)

Everything went super smooth, easiest thing oifficial I have done in Thailand.

Kuala Lumpur is a nice city, good transport system, loads of different food options. Went for a walk down China Town, some nice things down there, picked up some nice sports clothes there. Got an NFL and MLB jersey, which if fake are really good copies, and some addidas track bottoms, which definately fake, but decent quality. I like playing guitar so I found a guitar ship in Bukit Bintiang called Bentleys. Nice slection of guitars loads of fenders Ibanez's and PRS's in there. No Gibson though. Nice slection of amplifiers in there as well, loads of Fender and Marshall amps in there, from small solid state to small tube upto a mega sizzed 200 Watt Fender Bassman that would melt faces :) With the 100 Watt Marshalls in thre as well. Staff were friendly, let me have a mess around with a small marshall tube combo, and let me wind it up a bit to make some serious noise. Prices were a little steep though 32000 Baht for a Blues junior which the guy in the shop in Samui can get me for 23000. Loads of effects and stuff in there. If your a guitar head, then its a nice place to have a look around some nice gear in there.

Firefly airlines were okay, 9000 Baht return from Samui I thought was fair.

A good trip all round, as a note I took wifey but I didnt need her at the embassy at all, no point in taking them if thats your sole reason, but we took it as a 3 day break and left the kids with family. Was fun.
