kawtot
You can download the events program as a xls file from the link under the picture here: http://www.cmcity.go....php?ann_id=576 It's the municipality government's program, and it's in both Thai and English. It doesn't include the 10,000 Khom Fai launch on Sat 20th, probably because that's organised by Wat Tudong or Lanna Dhutanka Buddhist Centre. There are conflicting dates in some other event schedules around the place - eg: according to this spreadsheet the Lantern Procession Contest and the Kid's Contest are not on the 19th, but on the 20th. Confusion may have arisen because this year it's the "19th Yee Peng Lantern Procession Contest". Going by the structure of last year's program, I'm inclined to 'trust' this spreadsheet. Thanks for this information. Has anyone tried the English version. I have tried with Internet explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox. I get Errors with both. Would it be possible for someone to to try download Excel file and repost with it added. That is if it is not against the Thai Visa Rules!

Lizard2010
I have been advised on these dates for 2011 Loy Krathong, making that Saturday, 05 November and Loy Krathong will most likely continue from 10 November through Sunday 13 November 2011) I take it that their is several things that go on all the time till the end of the month. So the dates for the early part what does actually happen. Will there be similar activities and the release of the Lanterns and the offering on the River. Thanks in advance. zippydedodah
should you bring your own lanterns to launch? or are they provided at the Mae Jo site and/or can you buy them onsite? thanks for the info!
sarahsbloke
If you sign up for the mass release, you have to buy their KhomLoy Fireworks, Khomloys (to take home or burn outside the centre) and food and soft drinks are sold in the 50 stalls leading along the path to the car park. Same prices as everywhere else, no ripping off of tourists.
WinnieTheKhwai
does anyone know another place where natural suppies are provided and you can make your own krathong. or is the contest the only place in town to do it? thanks! Any market anywhere. All you need is a section of banana tree, banana leaves, some tooth-pick like pieces of wood and flowers and candles. And a small electric motor, remote controller, mini-cam and torpedoes, of course. Edited November 18, 2010 by WinnieTheKhwai
realthaideal
Check out this events listing from Thais for Thais ! They've also got English there to make it easy on you. http://www.cm108.com/bbb/36180.html Making your own kratong..... I seem to recall seeing them being made all over town in Wats and also in front of houses by old grannies n young girls. I'm sure if you want some real adventure, you just say hi to the people and ask to join in. Have a real Thai experience.

sarahsbloke
Doi Saket had its celebration last night, about 900 KhomLoys released, big fireworks, small parade, all at the Wat just outside of town, very pretty setting with massive lakes surrounding it.
