Hey all, I have searched and read a few threads in the forum but just want to make sure I am not being to lax about this as I do not see any reason she should not be allowed to come over for a short visit.

She applied online and got an interview for mid December, I think she has all her stuff in order but I am going to bring over my documents very soon and just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

I am her sponsor and will write a letter, but other than providing a copy of my US Passport and recent bank statement, along with copies of my business licenses ( I represent a Thai company here in the U.S.) is there anything else I need?

For background, we have been dating two years, we are nearly the same age, both never married and with no kids.

We have traveled together to Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia, she has also traveled with girlfriends to Japan for a backpacking trip and she has traveled to Malaysia by herself for diving trips.

Both of our passports reflect the travel we have done together so I guess that would establish our relationship, plus I stayed for four months in Thailand this year and have had probably a dozen entries to the country in the last 3 years.

Beyond this, she has a degree in computer science from a major BKK university and has been employed steadily for nearly 10 years at different multi-national companies, her most recent job as an engineer at a large company for nearly 3 years. (Letter from the Co. no problem)

She just bought a brand new house in Nonthaburi all on her own and also owns a vehicle outright...she is not rich, but money has never seemed to be an issue (has never asked me for 1 Baht).

Is this just going to be a routine application or do I need to provide a bunch more stuff? I got her a ticket using my FF miles (in biz class no less!) and she will be staying with me and a few days with my family. We will be spending very little money on this trip between the two of us!

Thanks!

Thought I would follow up, and hope this may help others.

My gf said they did not seem very interested in all of the documents she put together including a letter I wrote, I think she asked to do the interview in English but it was extremely brief; gave her a 10 year multiple entry visa and said come back if we want to get married and they will give her a different visa ! LOL!

Thanks for the follow-up report, glad to hear that she got the U.S. visa, and especially a 10-year one.

Mac, I was kinda surprised by that as well, did not even know they offered a 10 yr visa! What do they normally issue, 1 year?

They have been issuing the 10 year visa for most people for several years now, since the rules were changed that you had to have an interview even if you had previously been issued a visa. It was part of the fallout from 9/11.

My now wife's first two visas were multiple entry types but valid for only 6 months, and that's what she was stamped in for. Her third visa in 1995 was a 10-year type, reckon since she'd established that she was returning to Thailand. She's now on her 2nd 10-year visa.

The U.S. used to issue Life Time visa but that was stopped about 10 years ago and those visas either reissued as 10-years or revalidated for 10 years.

My girlfriend also has such a visa. They're generally good for six months per entry but there is a disclaimer that the duration is subject to the discretion of the immigration officer at the port of entry.

US Citizens visiting Thailand on a tourist visa however can only get a six month double entry, two months at a time (plus one month extension each time).

If you didn't know anything about Thailand or the US except the visa rules, you might think Thailand was a wealthy immigrant magnet and the US a third world toilet full of bumbling scammers.

But we know better, don't we? ;)

Indeed...the US Embassy doesn't need to know anything except.....that the Thai person receiving the visa will be returning to Thailand after the visit....the way they best determine that is to show the ties that connect the person to their homeland...i.e. banks, property, children, schools, etc...that is 99% of it...this is why bargirls hardly ever get visas and educated business girls do.....so in many cases they can get it on their own...although I'm sure it helps in the discussion that you two have a history....and what a history it sounds like too....so bro...marry that girl!...shes a keeper....incidently, my factory girl wife got her first 6 mos visa no problems then a 10yr when that went successful..even before we were married...the green card we waited almost until the tenth year due to procrastination as we travelled the world without it anyway...but in hindesight... sooner you get that the better...she is also now a highly successful entrepreneur herself...
