udon
Poipet to Siem Reap overland update -- Authorities in Poipet have decided that tourists can once again travel any way they want (bus, taxi, pick-up truck). However, all transport must be obtained from the bus/taxi depot about a kilometer from the border. They provide free shuttle vans to this location from outisde the immigration building. You can no longer find any transport at either the traffic circle or parked on the side of the road a kilometer or so to the east. The authorities control all the taxis and bus service and your transport must be paid for at the station in Poipet from the new govt service. The bus ticket is $11, taxis are now $35/1500 baht. Bus is not a Scam Bus, but is still pretty crappy and slow. Pick up trucks are still available and it's business as usual - haggle with the driver/touts. -- The KSR Scam Bus is still alive and well and hasn't missed a step. The other night they arrived in Siem Reap at 3 a.m.!!! Almost twenty hours from when it departed Bangkok. -- The road between Poipet and Siem Reap is presently in the worst condition it has been in some three years. A taxi ride is about four hours right now. From GorShar
