Roxy A Go-Go Bar, Overpriced Beer And Drinks!

I went to Roxy a go-go today for the second and last time. What a place, Roxy had a terrible show with a very fat unattractive woman and a San Miguel Light was priced at 250 baht!! That was the price without even a tout following me in to the place. I protested when I saw the bill, but the waitress told me it was extra because of the show. I still protested but it did of course not help. She also showed me the menu where this outrageous price was stated. And during the show one girl was going around with a tip box. lol. I have been there before and then I paid 140-150 baht for a beer. The worst thing is that there was 5-7 other customers there too, why do people go to this place? Suzy wong and rock hard are much better places, with much hotter girls, and lower booze prices too. If I want to pay 250 for a beer I would prefer to go to Moulin Rouge which hopefully(I have never been there) got attractive russian girls. Anyway, I did not see one attractive girl in Roxy.

There's a couple of things that stand out from your post.

Yes, 250 baht for a small bottle of beer is outrageously expensive. Agreed. However, you did say that it was clearly stated on the menu. I'd suggest that only a rich man walks into a-go-go and orders drinks without looking at the menu.

Secondly, you asked 'why do people go there'? Well........you went there, and possibly on your own too by the sounds of it...............Maybe you could answer the question for us.

Personally, I would have reported this to the Tourist Police.

Can a monger not go to a Go-go bar and gaze at crunge without being charged £5 for a bottle of beer.

Jimmy's Jetski antics, Ago-go touts, Tuk-tuks and now this... outrageous ... it's the sort of thing that is giving Phuket a bad name

Traveler tip:

Wear some shorts with a elastic band and briefs, not boxers and a loose fitting shirt. You should be able to fit about 4 beers in your waistband. Go into whatever club and order the same type of beer you have safely hidden away. When you finish that overly expensive rip-off beer, excuse yourself to the toilet. Open one of the beers you smuggled in in one of the stalls while making a coughing sound, being sure to discard the bottle top so that there's no evidence.

Exit the toilet and loiter at the bar a few minutes with the free beer, this is to make your waitress assume you bought a beer at the bar. Return to your table and repeat this process.

Happy Holidays

Here we go again - another "I didn't ask the price first and got stung" thread. 250 baht is overpriced, but you need to be aware of the prices the minute you walk through the front door, for EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE and EVERYTIME in Thailand.

Thousands of tourist have been, are being, and will continue to be stung by this. Little wonder that they go home and tell all their friends how expensive a holiday in Phuket is.

Well I have been there before and I assume I paid 140-150 for a beer then, so I just assumed they charged me the same as before. And I have never had any problems in the other go-go bars before. It was stated on the menu, but I suspect that this might have been the "tout menu", the one you get if you walk in with a tout.

I went to Roxy, because I wanted to try other go-go places then the ones I usually go to. But charging this much for a drink gives the place a bad reputation and I for one will boycott the place for the rest of my life.

If Roxy had charged me 700+ baht for a beer than I would have called tourist police. lol. But not for 250 baht.

I don't go to Patong very much anymore, I always feel like I need deloused after visiting the place. But I do know a mamasan on Bangla road and even she says that Patong is too expensive and most people just walk past her bar with a beer in hand that they bought from 7/11. On my last visit there with friends from Europe I failed to notice any attractive women, and the ladies (if you can call them ladies) that I did see, well I would have to be steaming drunk to even contemplate chatting them up, never mind paying them for the pleasure.

Does it though? or only a bad rep with punters like you?

Due to high ratio of transient punters who feel the emptyness in their lives to visit, such places and in fact the entire 'adult' (sic) industry in Phuket will continue to make money, and those punters will continue to moan they aren't as fulfilled as they had hoped.

Saddens me that some people fly here for cheap sex and then find a way to whine about some 7$ beer while they can have sex for 30$(1 000baht)... In your country having sex would either cost you 500k+ in 2-3 years for a divorce (if you hgave any money) or 1000$ us per night  Cant you just be happy about that? There's always cambodia or burma if you want to exploit some women for a cheaper amount.

fking hel_l, a beer at a strip club in canada is 7$ and you gotta tip the bouncer, you gotta tip the waitress, you gotta get hassled for lap dances from fat uglies and you dont get anyone touching you.

y"7$ beer while they can have sex for 30{:content:}quot;, it seems like the price of the beer is way overpriced when you look at the beer price/hooker price ratio. Furthermore, this is not Canada and expected price to pay for an expat or long time tourist is about 140-150 baht in a go-go in Patong. Hence, 250 baht is pretty sick.

And the price for go-go hookers in Roxy is probably 3000-4000 baht plus barfine.

beer price/hooker price ratio.

It's a sad day, when two grown men are on a public forum, discussing the 'Beer/Hooker price ratio'

I know this forum is anonymous, but do you not have an ounce of pride? :bah:

Not normally one for telling tales, but isn't prostitution illegal in Thailand, and isn't the discussion of illegal activities, against TV rules. :whistling:

Just shows how un travelled some posters are if you think thats true.. Before coming here I was living in holland where the pricing was I understood to be about the same or maybe a few % more.. Another area where we used to go clubbing in Antwerp was apparently even cheaper. The idea that Thailand is the end all of cheap sex is just silly (not been to PI lately ??) its much more the environment and atmosphere that almost unique.

Puritanism is still around.

Nothing to do with beiang a Puritan. I dare say I've had a much more 'Rock & Roll' past than you. I just wouldn't feel it appropriate to discuss it on a public forum.

I wouldn't come on here and tell you what consistency the <deleted> I had this morning was, would I, but I'm not suggesting for one minute that everybody should stop shitting.

It's called being inappropriate.

Some guy whining about spending 7$ while enjoying a show is definitely not gonna get laid in a club back home, he'll pay 300-1k$ an hour for escorts. or 100$ for the monster on the corner of the street.

All i meant is, its sad when ugly people who spend their days getting fat, come here and then find a way to whine about something a little more expensive than usual when if they had stayed home they'd be touching themselves until their death because of the high price of western prostitution in most countries and the lack of appeal to any women that isn't brain damaged

btw up there 3-4000baht for a gogo girl? what? i only did the "party scene" like a few weeks but when i did the highest i was ever quoted anywhere was 1000baht
