Rainy Weather In Phuket

I've got a vacation planned for Phuket next week. I see that the weather forecasts indicate rain for the next few weeks with the threat of a typhoon possible. I was wondering if any forum members residing in Phuket could advise me if it has been raining there everyday and what the weather situation is. Many thanks.

And don't forget that Phuket is a pretty big island, with lots of hills.

It can rain in one area, yet another place 5km away can have not a single drop.

Therefore, if a forecast says it will "rain every day on Phuket", it's probably right. But you'd be very unlucky if it rained where you're staying every day.

The weather looked pretty bad from my bedroom window this morning:

I quite enjoy it when it rains. You find shelter, a little bar for a quiet beer is always good, and then watch the locals trying to cope on their bikes. It's very entertaining. Four to a bike with one holding the umbrella and weird and wonderful plastic garments and hats being worn as they hurry about their always ernest business.

The rain doesn't last long, and cools things down for a while while cleaning the streets. You can be back on the beach shortly afterwards.

It is currently hot and sunny in Rawai. About 34º C. It has rained the past few nights, hard at times. I was trying to watch TV early Monday morning, about 1 AM and the thunderstorm that came was a pretty good one. My dog was cowering under the kitchen table and my satellite TV was going out due to rain fade. But the days have been clear and hot. A few weeks ago it did rain for days. But as another poster said; it can be raining on one part of the island and not raining in another... And I agree with old crock, I like the rain! It cools things down and watching people ride motorbikes with an umbrella is pretty amusing!
