E-driving test

BANGKOK: -- The Land Transport Department yesterday launched a computerised theory test for people seeking a driver’s licence in Bangkok.

“This should quell any talk that the theoretical test for drivers’ licences is just a meaningless customary procedure,” said Deputy Transport Minister Chaiyanan Charoensiri. He said the computerised test would ensure that a credible marking system was in place and pave the way for an efficient database system.

The test is now available at the department’s headquarters and transport offices in Bang Khunthien, Taling Chan, Nong Chok and Sukhumvit. “If it works well, we will request a further budget to provide computerised tests across the country,” Chaiyanan said, adding that the first phase cost Bt32 million.

He said applicants must score at least 23 out of 30 to go on to take the practical driving test.
