I just arrived in Bangkok yesterday Nov 27. I will go to Ranong on Dec 1 and make a day trip to Myanmar. Then I will leave Thailand on Dec 25.

I know when I come back from my day trip to Myanmar, I will get only 15 days. So I got a Thai tourist visa. This way when I come back I can get 60 days, more than good enough to last until I depart on Dec 25.

The problem is that yesterday when I came in through immigration at Suvarnabhumi yesterday, they used my tourist visa. I told the immigration guy, please don't use the visa, please save it. I told him I am going to Myanmar on Wednesday and don't really need to save the visa. But the immigration said that is not possible (even though I have done it before). He said if I have a visa in the passport, it must be used ans cannot be saved. I asked for my passport back to go to a different line, but he refused and stamped my visa used for entry.

So now, when I make my day trip to Myanmar from Ranong, can I get a reentry permit to keep my 60 day tourist visa active? Do they offer than service at every immigration outpost? I have never been to Ranong immigration before. Most foreigners probably go there to make a new entry, I doubt many people ask for a reenty permit there.

How much does reentry permit cost (sorry, I know I can search and check that).

Actually, I do have a 2 entry Thai tourist visa, but I need to save the second visa for being here from Jan 8 = Feb 15, 2011.

Any idea how I can make this day trip to Myanmar and reenter on my current Thai tourist visa (not getting only 15 days, and not killing my second entry on visa.)

Thanks,

Drew

Yes 1st go to Ranong immigration on the main road, a re entry permit is 1,000 baht, then go to the pier, on returning the immigration on the pier with stamp you using the re entry so you Visa will still be alive for the 60 days

Ahhh, Immigration office on the main road. I'll be with a Thai friend and we'll have a car, so should be no problem at all.

Thanks for the info! Good to know it's possible.

Better to get it in Bangkok , not sure if they still issue in Ranong..

Yeah, the Bangkok office is just too far away. If the Ranong office doesn't issue the reentry permit, I'll just figure fates are against my taking a half day trip across the border. I'll be sure to post if it is available or not next week.

Thanks

I got the re-entry permit at Ranong immigration no problem. It is on the road to the pier a couple of hundred meters before the pier.

They pretty much assume anyone there is wanting a visa extension. It took a little explaining to get the re-entry permit and not an extension.

I stamped out and back into Thailand and kept my 60 day tourist visa valid no problem

Couple of thoughts about Ranong:

Pon Rang hot spring is really great, we went everyday. It is 100 Bt for foreigners but as good as a $15 hot spring in Japan. Actually it was free over the 3 day King's Birthday weekend.

The overnight bus to Ranong was much better than expected. I thought I would hate it but it was fine. Big seats with only 3 seats per row.

The day time bus I took back to Bangkok was worse than expected. Really miserable, take the night bus (can't believe I say that).

Problem with both is the Southern Bus Terminal. It must be half the way to Cha-am already. There is a train to Chumpon then Minibus option if you can get the train ticket (was full before for me)

Pon's Place is the place to go for travelers needs in Ranong.

That's all

I think you must have made an error or used the wrong Bus......

Day or night Bus, there are 3 double decker type.... 21 seats with 170 degree seat pitch @ 666 baht, 35 seat or 54 seat very much cheaper Never used the last 2... You can pick the bus up and again be dropped off outside there Office in Bangkok or at Southern Bus Terminal
