Tried to search on this topic, but nothing much came up. I am about to apply for a 10m baht investment visa. Plan is to buy thai government bonds. Anybody has done this before? Is it hassle free? Anything I should be aware off?

Thanks Potter :jap:

We don't see many people applying for this option, so there is not much knowledge.

Regarding investing and what you need to consider you might do better asking around in the business section.

Get yourself a non-immigrant "O" visa and come on over, open a Thai bank account and transfer in a minimum of foreign currency equivalent to 10 million THB, purchase the Thai government bonds, immigration will then grant you a 1 year extension of stay based on investment. I have to say that nobody has bragged about actually doing this yet. There are better places to park your spare cash.

There has been some discussion about this recently, with an individual trying to apply outside Thailand, which, looks to have ran into the sand.

Given the realities, I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a process, and those I know who did ultimately viewed it as a 'troublesome' option.

Regards

PS If you care to share maybe some here could make alternative suggestions.

Years ago when the investment visa got reintroduced, I asked about this at a friendly Thai consulate. They told me to bring a letter from the local immigration office. When I went to the local immigration office they did not know much about this. I told somebody else about the local immigration office not knowing much about my case.

I tried to google "investment visa" rather than investment visa. I had a lot more usefull hits coming up. The best advice I could find is in a post from Lobburi3, where he recommends to talk with the local immigration first. I believe this is the best approach to take.
