Hi all,

This may be the wrong sub-forum for the question.

If not, does anybody here know where I would be able to get an affordable translation from Enligh to Thai?

It is for a book of Buddhist teachings and stands at 10k words.

Being a non-Thai reader I am nervous about using a translator that I cannot varify or check after the translation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thankyou

GFL.

First just a word of warning: A translator for a job like this requires a deep knowledge of technical religious vocabulary in *both* languages, and may be hard to find. Just being a native speaker of one (or even both) will not be sufficient.

That said, if I were you I'd take one or two pages and farm it out to a couple of different translators. Then you could post the results back here and ask for feedback as to how good the translation is. I think the forum regulars should be able to provide decent feedback on a sample translation. If all is a go, hire them for the whole thing. (Be careful working with an agency, too, because you might not get the same translator for the sample and the whole doc--probably best in this case to use an individual freelancer. Also their rates tend to be higher because they're taking a cut.)

Try posting the sample to sites like proz.com or translatorscafe.com. You'll be able to see the per-word rates people charge to see if you can stomach the cost.
