2010-12-24 02:34:18 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao is scheduled to visit the White House in late January as part of a state visit to the United States, officials said on Thursday.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Hu would visit the White House on January 19. "President Hu's visit will highlight the importance of expanding cooperation between the United States and China on bilateral, regional, and global issues, as well as the friendship between the peoples of our two countries," Gibbs said.

Gibbs added that U.S. President Barack Obama is looking forward to welcome Hu to Washington and continue building a partnership to advance the nation's common interests and address their shared concerns.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will also host an official state dinner for Hu on the night of January 19.
