Best Street Map Of Bangkok, Map Bangkok Street THREAD

AsiaWolfie

depends on what area you want to be covered.....downtown only or the suburbs and greater bangkok area as well......

the NELLES Map is not a bargain, about 200 BT or so, but its very good, one very detailled map of the donwtown area, including BTS and MRT stations, and on the backside a very good map of greater Bangkok.

if you want the GREATER BANGKOK area including a listing of all busses the best value for money is the dead-cheap (50 Baht !!) and excellent map "Bus Routes & Map" of Bangkok, published by Bangkokguide (www.bangkokguide.co.th). the problem is, its just too cheap so many bookstores are not interested to sell it. But I know the SE-ED stores used to have it.....

if you want to do some research at home, buy the awesome CD-map "Map-Magic Bangkok 2004-2005" by Thinknet. its the best thing I have seen so far, a great search function (for example, you can search for buildings, shops, sights....anything) and is only 299 Baht, including a printed map. I use the CD almost every day while working on my laptop.....get it at SE-ED too, but make sure to buy the BILINGUAL Version, as there is a THAI ONLY version as well (which is only 249 baht, as far as I remember

Thinknet Deluxe Atlas 2005-2006 (paper, Bilingual, GPS compatible) . The atlas features adequate regional and Bangkok roadmaps, but then expands to maps for all 76 provinces, with city and district zooms on each page. These provincial maps make it probably the best Thailand road atlas yet produced (as advertised). These maps also show terrain and even sea depth, plus features like temples, schools & railway stations. Over 150 maps in all at 760 baht, which works out at 10 Baht per province. Bangkok maps are a bit disappointing. Check it out at a SE-Ed near you. I notice that this map tends to show railway details that Khun Wisarut assures us still exist; and has left out many defunct lines shown in other atlases. On the other hand, I found its representation of Pasak Cholasit dam rather poor when compared with the Sat photos shown elsewhere in this section of the forum. However, this is a very promising new entrant to the market. There have definitely been huge strides in local mapping over the last two years or so.
