nattydread
being a two tone ska fan and partial to a bit of reggae also i am thinking of giving it a try......has anybody been to this in previous years? http://www.paifestival.com/
LivinLOS
Looks like fun.. But Huay Tung Tao is the lake just off the canal Rd north (I am new to the area) ?? Yet not only is it pai music festival.. They have a location map on the website showing it up in the pai region. Will definitely go for a bit bounce about if its as stated the local lake. CheGuava
Very confusing... Maybe it's just that the domain name doesn't sync with the location of the festival.. The content clearly shows: BUT, it also links to the 'http://www.paireggaefest.com ' site, which has a 'location' link that shows: Could be a case of too much of the herbal stuff..? And then, 1500 baht for '3 days and nights'.. That's fairly ambitious, price wise. Edited January 6, 2011 by CheGuava
LivinLOS
And then, 1500 baht for '3 days and nights'.. That's fairly ambitious, price wise. Depends if you go one night or get to see the lot.. I see 30 odd band names, so 50 baht a band.. Plus DJ's.. Bargain !! Seems last years was 500 baht for 2 nights. Also the 'schedule' on the website is for 2010s artist listing !! Still sounds like a few good nights of music..
SadieMBeagle
I believe the inconsistencies can be explained: 1. Location - In years past, this festival has been held in Pai. And it is officially known as the "Pai Reggae Festival." Maybe they are moving it to the CM area this year to attract more people? Or maybe because Pai doesn't have the amount of accommodations needed for the kind of crowd the festival wants to attract? I don't know why they moved it this year, those are just my guesses. As for the map, maybe they just haven't updated the website from last year. Who knows. 2. Price - If you look at some of the bold-face names in the ad, like Sister Carol, etc., some of these are internationally known artists. I think there are probably serious reggae/ska fans who come to Pai/CM specifically to see this show. I liken it to the Bumbershoot Music Festival in the US, and music festivals in other countries that aren't widely publicized outside that country, yet are extremely popular. Quite expensive if you look at the prices, but if you look at the number of acts vs. the price you pay, it's quite a deal. And the festivals are always packed. Anyway, hope this helps. I plan to spend at least one day there, so see you there!!
squidlip
I reckon SadieMBeagle's got it about right. Although I also hear rumours of a festival in Pai over the weekend prior to this one - ie, Jan 15 & 16. Repeat performance, something different or misinformation? But it would take them about 2 minutes to move the google maps marker and really as an info site all it does is spread more confusion. Its a couple of weeks away, and the map and schedule is to last years event.
SadieMBeagle
I agree...it's pretty irksome that they have yet to update the schedule. As for the location, not really an issue, as we all know where the lake is, and most people hear about the festival from word of mouth around town, anyway. At least the poster says it's at the lake, so hopefully no travelers will head out to Pai to an empty field! I would really like to know the schedule though, as I don't want to go every day. Here's hoping they get their sh-stuff together soon!

It says 21-22 January...maybe it's a work-in-progress and 23 January will be up in a few minutes? Pai Reggae Festival 2011 Schedule ETA - And January 23 is up!!
