Hello Forum,

I have decided to quit my job and I have read that I should have to return my work permit myself to the labor department.

1) Is it true ? or do I give it back to my company ?

2) I worked in Nonthaburi province and the closest thing I found is this

Nonthaburi Skilled Labor Development Center

http://home.dsd.go.th/nonthaburi/

Is this really the place where I shall return my permit?

Thank you in advance for your ever useful answers

You need a letter from your employer, stating the date on which your job was terminated. It is no longer required to turn in the WP it self, it will be canceled with the letter.

You have to go to the labor office, not sure if that is the same building.

Note that if you are on en extension of stay based on your employment, you will also need to go to immigration to cancel your permission to stay with a likewise letter from your employer. At that time you can get a 7 day extension for 1,900 baht or need to leave the country the same day.

Thak you for your answer

What about I go out first and get a tourist visa THEN I ask for a letter to my company ?

That way I won't have to pay 1900B or leave the same day ...

That will might complicate things, as without a non-immigrant visa you are not allowed to work and would only leave on a different day.

The last day of work will be the last day you get paid over, so if you get a holiday and at the end of the holiday resign and go with a letter from your employer to the labour office it should work.

But once you re-enter on the tourist visa, you are not allowed to work.

The building in Nonthaburi is on Rattantibeth in the Government complex, it is the big building that is in front of you and a little to the right when you drive into the Complex. After parking go into the building bear left and walk about 20metres, there is a huge office on the right, this is the place you get a work permit from and can return it there to.

Actually I got my work permit in Bangkok Sam Yan in that huge building standing at the MRT station, and not in Nonthaburi, I have no idea why it was not in Nonthaburi ... shall I return there?
