Please someone helps me,

I have been though some very rough time at work and I could not face going back there.

I have resigned today from my job by email, but have not been back to work since two days.

I have been told I need a letter to cancel my work permit and extension to stay so I can get out of the country and get a tourist visa (By the way, I do not intend to work on my tourist visa, I am not teaching)

If my company put the actual day I did not turn up as my last day and by the time they send me a letter back it will be days, which I will have to pay 500 Bahts each right?

Instead can't I just go to Laos like today and change my extension to stay into a tourist visa now LIKE TODAY ??so I don't have to wait around more days to pay ?

Thank very much in advance for your help and advices

You have to leave the last day of your employment, leaving later means you are on overstay and have to pay 500 baht a day.

You could leave today to Vientiane to get a double entry tourist visa. That would mean applying tomorrow in Vientiane and get the visa on Monday and return to have your work permit canceled and possible overstay sorted out.

A lot depends on what date will be written in the letter from your employer that you will have to show labor and immigration.

My extension of stay has a multiple re entry on it, can it be cancelled in Vientiane and changed for a tourist visa without the letter of my company saying I have finished working with them?

OK thank you for your help Mario !

I went down to the one stop visa/work permit/BOI place in San YAm, where I got my work permit in the first palce and they were very helpfull.

I am a BOI visa so it is a litlle more complicated : they gave me 1 week (apparently free??? - did not dare to ask- ) from my final workday to get out of the country, but it's more paperwork: I have to get 2 letters and 1 resignation application form in 5 copies from my work .

BUT As I got myself to the BOI and ask myself for resignation file I got to choose what date to put on the form as my last day work rolleyes.gif

I gave myself another week jap.gif before "leaving" my company, that gives me a bit of time and also give them (my company) the time to prepare the paperwork, hopefully they will agree.ermm.gif

So I have a bit of time now to prepare for Vientiane !

Once my company gets me the papers I can cancel my extension to stay and hopefully I would have some time left to get to Vientiane!

Thank you again Mario! smile.gif

Brisbane Australia Royal Thai consulate currently (November 2010)requires that the applicant provides evidence of an airticket out of Thailand or "itinary" showing same at end of first sixty day grant of double entry visa before issuing a double entry visa.

I wonder if Consulates near to Thailand such as Vietiane are less demanding usually not.

They are less demanding, certainly in the case of Vientiane no ticket is required as it is easy to travel to Thailand by land transport.
