I don't know if it's been there all along, but today I noticed in the bottom of the google translate screen (when it's set up for Thai-English), there's a small keyboard icon. Click on the icon and it gives you an on-screen keyboard. Whether you type on your own keyboard or the on-screen keyboard, the translate feature works as you type. Google translate is far from perfect, but it's a nice feature when you're trying to get a general idea of a story.
