Cool Computer-on-a-stick

Featured Replies

What is it? A computer in a stick or what? What is it used for?

Not really aw-inspiring, you can make your own bootable version of linux and install all the same software on it, with a standard USB flash drive. All free except the price of the drive.

It is not a computer on a stick, it's an OS with applications on a stick. A little mis-leading on their part.

"I treat is like its my home computer. Since now days a computer is getting

closer to just being a "dumb terminal". It opened me up to that whole idea

and I would never have thought of it since Im not a linux hack or even have

used linux yet. This will be my first time using it and it has everything I need

and looks like I can't mess it up like I could trying to do it myself."

Sounds like you bought it already. You are right, if you have no linux experience this is a simple way to go. But if you haven't bought it there are "live-cd" versions of linux that directly boot from the CD giving you the same results. Though creating your own is really trivial even without prior linux experience.

yes i bought one.not every computer comes with open office, email, msn,

aim, yahoo messenger, ssh/telnet, firefox, and the real advantage of finger

gear is that it is PORTABLE and SECURE. You can take it where ever you

go and turn your work computer into the same computer you use at home or

your friends computer into the your computer, IT TRANSFORMS ANY

COMPUTER into YOUR COMPUTER. also it adds security since no one

can access it when its in your pocket and linux is less suseptible to viruses

and worms.

Do most PC's allow boot from USB then ???

I dont think that would work with mine but I dont have a USB removable drive..
