WikiLeaks nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

2011-02-03 03:41:35 GMT+7 (ICT)

OSLO (BNO NEWS) -- A Norwegian politician nominated the whistle-blower site WikiLeaks for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, news agency NTB reported Wednesday.

Snorre Valen, a representative of Norway's Socialist Left Party, highlighted the work of WikiLeaks in exposing classified documents and promoting freedom of speech and transparency.

Valen emphasized the role the website played in the Tunisian uprising after disclosing the assets of Tunisia's former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

"WikiLeaks has published and contributed to revealing cases of corruption committed by governments and companies, and perhaps most importantly revealed illegal surveillance, war crimes and torture committed by a number of states," Valen told news bureau NTB.

Nominations are currently being collected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, which advises not to comment on individual nominations. Those making the nominations, however, are free to disclose their candidates.

Too bad he doesn't make an effort to stop the unecessary slaughter of whales by Norwegian vessels. As long as Norway engages in such a despicable and cruel activity it has zero moral authority.

I nominate all staff of wikileaks to be sent to Quantanamo Bay for re-education.

no need for that Obamas said its ok now......

"The U.S. stands for "universal values," Obama said, referring to the freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, and the freedom to access information".

With the recent history of recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize (BHO?), I expect Wikileaks to receive the award.

The question in my mind is who will make the acceptance speech. The guy that is under investigation for sex crimes or somebody else similarly qualified?

I wonder if Norway has an extradition treaty with Sweden.

I think its a great idea. But sadly it would destroy the generally good image the prize enjoys.

Hang on a second. Obama won the prize for doing absolutely nothing.

The prize was disgraced & went into the krapper at that moment.

...and who can forget Yasser Arafat?

unless of course it is horrible legislation that he is trying to ram through the house without any chance for anyone to read in advance. in that case you have to "pass the bill to see what's in it"
