Seeking Info For My Doppelganger Daughter

Didn't know where to post this (family/health) so thought here would get best exposure for answerers

Our daughter who is learning to write has started to write letters in reverse, like mirror effect. She does this with both English and Thai characters.

I remember reading long time ago something about this condition (is it a condition?) but forget what it is called.

If anyone can tell me what this condition is called I can Google up some info on it. Or if anyone has personal experience any info would also be welcome.

Thanks. :)

going to move to family forum;

dyslexia comes to mind; some kids have it in one language but not an other; my eldest is more dyslectic in her native language then in english (hebrew goes right to left so may be part of it?)... but she is dyslectic only in reading and writing; she has no problem when told to turn left or right, like many with dislexia, and, also like many people with dyslexia, she is a very very good artist and does most of her work orally/or materially i.e. art/photo/presentations.

children can be tested for minor learning disabilities so that if she has one, she can get extra help before it becomes not only a learning problem but a social/psychological problme due to frustration, etc...

not sure in thailand where can get tested, maybe TV member mikeidea knows...

I should Know,I'm Left Handed,so is my Ex wife and both our two children,

more of a Gene Thing I would say!

Sounds like mirror writing. If so, genetic and a byproduct of the human manufacturing process. Rather unique ability, but yes, left handedness is associated with the trait as it is reported that more southpaws are mirror writers. I wouldn't be too worried. It's sort of cool.

Mind you If she's left handed have you considered banishment? My experience with the cacky handed in my family is that they definitely are sinister evil schemers. My brother used to steal my Haloween candy and he would insult me in front of my girlfriend. My cousin is a womanizer and he drinks American beer. I rest my case.

Thanks everyone for your replies :jap:

Having done some "Googling" it seems it's a phase a lot of kids go through, seems they grow out of it naturally.

My concern was that it could be a sign of something more serious but at the moment I'll just keep an eye on it and help with writing correctly.

Thanks for your interest

Well the list of Famous People throughout History who made their mark on the World, would certainly back up that Theory!

Albeit an extremely, thin on evidence case too!

I have mild Dyslexia and when i was a child used to write certain letters backwards all the time, also had problem reading at the expected levels. I went to a specialist (this was in the UK) and after a year or so and was able to fix this.

I'd recommend looking for a Dyslexia specialist and they will know the exact types of exercised to do in order to train her brain around this (a lot of proof-reading exercises etc...)

It's difficult to explain to someone who doesn't have it, but you can literally write something like "htis is bitticulf" and you read it back and it actually looks like "this is difficult" on the paper (you cannot even notice anything is wrong)

Or you miss words out and when you read it back your mind automatically adds all the missing words back in, so that you are not able to see any missing words.

im with dave1 on this one as i have three kids with dyslexia (their father is dyslexic;my bad spelling is just laziness); depending on the age and what or how she is reversing things, u might wait a while, but if it persists, or causes her frustration (or problems with a non comprehending teacher) then prof. pedagogical advice should be sought. nowadays things are so much better, testing, and teaching so that kids with basic learning difficulties dont need to suffer like 10-20 years ago. sometimes it can also be physiological i.e. need physical therapy for holding pencil and moving hand properly. if u can get some prof. guidance, all the better.

Leonardo da Vinci wrote most of his personal notes in mirror, only using standard writing if he intended his texts to be read by others. The purpose of this practice by Leonardo remains unknown.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_writing

As Da Vinci is considered one of the greatest genius of all times, may I advise you to start patenting everything your daughter do ???
