DA: Actress Lindsay Lohan to be charged with felony grand theft

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan will be charged with felony grand theft on Wednesday, prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old 'Mean Girls' actress is under investigation after a one of a kind necklace valued at $2,500 was taken from a jewelry store in the Venice area of Los Angeles on January 22. Lohan allegedly walked out of the store with the necklace after which the owner reported the theft to police, which investigated the allegation and presented evidence to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office last week.

As part of the Grand Theft investigation, Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Area obtained a search warrant on February 1 for Lohan's Venice residence to search for the necklace. Prior to service of the warrant, the necklace was returned to Pacific Detectives.

Lohan will be arraigned at 1.30 p.m. PST at the Airport Superior Court in Los Angeles after being charged with one count of felony grand theft. She is also still on probation in a 2007 misdemeanor DUI case.

The felony grand theft charge will be the most serious charge yet against the actress, who has previously spent time in jail. The new charge could send her to California State Prison.
