PM Abhisit Keeps Everyone Guessing

I think a lot depend on if Abhisit is able to change the law to favor the Dems in the next election.

Should he be successful and then wins the election there will be even more trouble on the streets than now as people will claim he changed the law just to win.

If he is not successful I suspect the next election will be held under martial law again.

Peau Thai got more party list seats than the Democrats in the last election, so wouldn't the law change (specifically, to change the number of directly elected MPs to 375 and party list MPs to 125) benefit Peau Thai in exactly the same way as the Democrats?

edit: AFAIK, the other change (changing multiple-seat to single-seat constituency) helps the smaller parties rather than the larger parties, so no Democrat benefit their either.

MPs-election charter amendments passed

Parliament Friday passed the final reading of an amendment bill to change the electoral system with 347 - 37 votes. Forty-two parliamentarians abstained.

The bill amended Articles 9 3 to 98 of the Constitution to change multiple-seat to single-seat constituency and reduce the number of constituency-based MPs from 400 to 375 and increase the number of party-list MPs to 125.

Why is it that when people exppres their distate for Abhisit , they have to be labeled as Thaksin supporters ?

Thaksin was an absolute scumbag but he had electoral legitimacy.

Mark doesn't ( and please do not lecture me on how a parlimentary system works).

Dream on

Can you give any evidence for PM-Abhisit not being serious about wanting to call the election shortly ? ;)

And can a voluntarily-resigned term-expired caretaker-PM really be said to have "electoral legitimacy", surely that lapsed when he called a new election ? B)

Yes you have no desire to know how it works. While I am not a fan of it I do understand it and Abhist as his two predecessors were was brought to power using it. Interesting how every one wants to say he was not elected but fail to mention his two predecessors. As I recall my worst nightmare was dumber than a board fence. Are you sure you are that person.:D

Actualy there were three conditions.

the third one was that he felt sure that a election could be held with out violence.

Not sure where that one will bo.

Thaksin commented the other day that he didn't believe Abhisit will dissolve the government in April. Either he expects it earlier, or he's expecting violence.

There is currently no violence. The constitution changes are being voted on today and are expected to pass.

You are correct there is currently no violence unless you want to call the Yellow Spines violent. I don't.

How ever it is not you and me that he said had to feel secure in the knowledge that they could have a election with out violence.:(
