Rising Prices..

I heard import taxes on wine were to rise. Today I bought a few cases of wine from my local dealer to fill my cellar/wine fridge.

Wine seems to be my big extravagance. Putting additional tax on it seems silly.

Especially since Thailand apparently has descent wine producers too. Though i have yet to find any of their products marketed here in Phuket.

Supposedly the is a winery in Loei which makes a good chenin blanc.

Chateau de Loei...

Motor taxis have increased their fares here in downtown Chupon from 10 to 20 baht, (not bath for the smartassed)

A tuk tuk to the beach was 150 3 years ago, 200 last year and now 300 (a 15 km one way ride) The reason always invoked was higher fuel price.

I can not comment on vegs due to seasonalities but will watch out and inform the honorable members of this forum :o

Do you understand what the post was saying, Siam? If so, it's certainly out of character for you to defend someone proclaiming how much he prefers to have sex with cheap Thai bar girls.

:D:o:D

btw, posting in some idiotic manner is not "style"

yes, just about, but the point was he has a right to express his opinions, and I have the right to refute them. I do not have the right to call him a prat for them, according to the rules of this forum. Even if I think he is.

and I do :D

It's nice to go on about public transportation and rising prices but it is a bit difficult for those of us living on the islands. We are literally hostage to the ferry companies. What are we supposed to do? Swim to the mainland?

How many Km per litre does a Tuk tuk do? I would have thought the least would be 10. Thai would be 1.5 litre for the trip you mention. Ie maximum total cost of 40 Baht. or 80 Baht for both ways. So 3 years ago both ways would have cost 40 Baht in fuel, now 80 baht. An increase of 40 Baht. This would mean that the trip should have risen from 150 Baht to 190 Baht attributable to fuel costs, not 300 Baht.

This just proves that some are using fuel cost increases to line their pockets.

oh come on, be generous

the guy also has to pay for all those other things, like food, which have gone up too, for the same reason

things like tuktuk rental have also risen etc etc

mind you, double in 3 years is a lot, and I suppose the drivers have the usual cartel rates?

I'm not saying that other costs haven't risen, but the post stated that price had doubled due to increase in fuel costs and the sums do not add up

Well I just went to renew my emergency-supply of Chang, and the price is now 360B per-case, up from 350 a year ago. Surely this can't reflect the full increase in fuel costs ? It should be more !

Anyway this works out at a massive £0.40 per large bottle, for my favourite beer, which compares VERY favourably with Eng-er-land. Cheers ! :D:o

As always, in the eyes of the tuk tuk driver you are farang...you can afford it.

the thai price for the same journey is how much?

The price rise to 190 baht is logical, unfortunatley this is Thailand and logic has not washed up on these shores just yet :o

**I thought tuk tuks ran on LPG? and they do WAY more that 10 clicks a litre for sure!

These are thai prices, a shocked tgf informed me about these price rises around Chumpon!

There you go.... and it IS shocking and worrying.. :o

Like a previous poster said... a few baht won't normally make a difference to farangs living in LOS.. but put into perspective the increase is worrying for majority of (less well off ) Thais.

It is a problem for the less well off Thais. Unfortunately they will often just shrug and accept it.

I avoid Tuk tuks if at all possible as they always seem to try and rip you off.

One time , arriving at Morchit bus station, Instantly jumped on by the Tuk tuk touts. They wanted 600 Baht to the airport. If you know the Taxi meter fair is around the 100 Baht you know that this is outragous, but for the uninformed, they are thrown to the wolves.

I was quite annoyed one time at Bangkok main railway station the missus arranged a Tuk tuk while I was in the loo. 100 Baht for what would have been 40 Baht taxi meter. She explained that the taxis didn't want to take a low fare like that so no choice but Tuk tuk.

I said, I can understand that, but if offer 100 Baht to taxi, they would take you for sure. And much more comfortable. I still don't think she quite got it, bless her :o
