CAT to Add Online Functions to Land Line Services

CAT Telecom announced that it will be focusing on the telephone business in light of positive outlook, and is planning to add Internet capabilities to home phones.

CAT Telecom Vice President Thanwadee Wongtheerarit foresees significant growth in the telephone business, though the growth in value may not be significant, considering the telephone service will cost less as time passes.

She added that the government is improving accessibility for all Thais.

Thanwadee said CAT Telecom is planning to focus more on the fixed-line telephone business, with the company looking to invest 300 million baht in upgrading the land line service to support Internet and VOIP services, which will allow users to send multimedia content or make video calls from home phones to mobile phones.

The executive went on to say that the firm has cut international calling rates for nine destinations to 3 baht per minute until June.

The nine destinations include the United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Hawaii, Guam, Alaska, and Midway.

Thanwadee expects the campaign will help expand the customer base, with revenue from the international calling service projected at more than 5 billion baht this year.

Despite tense competition, CAT Telecom generated more revenue from international calls than its rivals, at 5 billion baht last year.
